Throttle linkage is the part of a carburetor swap that gets improvised, and it should not be. The stud has to be the right length, the cable bracket has to hold the cable square, the return springs have to close the throttle every time, and on a 200-4R or 700R4 the TV cable has to be geometrically correct or the transmission pays for it.

1. Studs, Balls and Clips
The small end of the job, and the part most likely to send you back to the parts store mid-install.
| GM throttle stud kits | Holley offers both a long and a short GM stud kit — the short kit uses a 0.313 inch stud diameter. Which one you need depends on the carburetor's throttle lever and what else stacks on the stud. |
| Transmission stud kit | a separate Holley kit for the transmission side of the lever, so the TV or kickdown cable gets its own anchor instead of sharing one. |

2. Cable Brackets and the TV Cable Question
Read this before choosing a bracket, because the two main kits do different jobs.
| Speedmaster bracket kits | carburetor-base mounted aluminum brackets in black or polished, with the return spring assembly, the passing gear bracket and all hardware in one kit instead of three separate parts. Note what they do not do: these do not accept a transmission kickdown cable. |

3. Return Springs Are Not Optional
A throttle that does not close on its own is the one linkage failure that hurts people. Butler stocks a carburetor-mount throttle return kit in chrome steel that fits Holley 2300 and 2305 two-barrels and Holley 4150 and 4160 four-barrels, and it includes both heavy and light spring sets so you can match spring rate to the linkage you have. Use two springs, and check full closure with the engine off and the air cleaner on before the first drive.
4. Cables
Universal throttle cable assemblies with braided housing are stocked in 24 inch and 36 inch for carbureted vehicles. Measure the routing you actually intend to use, around the headers and away from anything hot, rather than the straight-line distance from pedal to carburetor.
