Pontiac V8 Conversion and Replacement Kits

One Box, One Front End — Conversion and Replacement Kits for Pontiac V8s

Conversion and replacement kits solve the problem of buying a Pontiac front end one piece at a time. Each kit pairs a timing cover with the matching water pump, plate, sleeves, alignment sleeves and every gasket the job takes, so nothing stops the build halfway through.

Butler builds these kits in-house. They cover 8-bolt to 11-bolt conversions for 1964-67 and 1968 engines, straight 8-bolt and 11-bolt replacement kits, and the early-1969 4" to 4-1/2" water pump conversion for owners stuck with a pump that is no longer readily available.

More About Conversion and Replacement Kits

1. What each kit is for

Pick by what is on the engine now and where you want to end up. The conversions move an early engine to the later 11-bolt front end; the replacement kits put a fresh cover and pump on what you already run.

1964-1967 8-bolt to 11-bolt, non A/Ccovers 1964-67 326, 1964-66 389 and 1967 350 and 400. Includes the 11-bolt cover, a high volume pump, a billet two-groove pulley, plate and sleeves, alignment sleeves, gaskets, and a 4-bolt balancer with timing tape that requires the included non-A/C crank pulley.
1968 8-bolt to 11-boltthe same conversion aimed at 1968 350 and 400 engines, with a stainless bolt kit added. Butler's reason for the swap is blunt: the 11-bolt style cools better and is more efficient.
1968 8-bolt replacementkeeps the 8-bolt pattern, with a 1968 cover, a FlowKooler high volume cast pump with aluminum impeller, the plate and the gaskets. It suits 1964-67 engines too, just with the updated 1968 timing tab.
1969 and up 11-bolt replacement11-bolt cover, your choice of water pump, plate and sleeves, alignment sleeves, stainless bolt kit and gaskets.
Early 1969 4" to 1969 1/2 4-1/2" pump conversionbuilt because the early 4" pumps are no longer readily available. Includes a high flow pump, gaskets and a billet pulley that keeps your stock pulleys and brackets in alignment.

2. Fitment you have to read first

Tri-Power carsreproduction timing covers will not work with Tri-Power. Choose the dimpled reconditioned cover option instead.
1963 and olderengines that came with 4-bolt timing covers cannot use these kits.
Pump geometrythe converted front end runs a 4-1/2" fan hub working height on a 5/8" shaft, and the supplied pulley is sized for that pump at 6-1/2" diameter.

Call with your year, displacement and whether the car has factory air before ordering, and we will confirm the pulley and balancer combination that goes with it.
