Pontiac V8 Billet Crankshafts
Cut From Solid — Billet Crankshafts for Pontiac V8s
A billet crankshaft is not a catalogue part — it is milled from solid bar stock to the dimensions you specify. Butler stocks billet Pontiac cranks for the builds that have run out of forged options: deep strokes, unusual journal combinations, and race engines where the crank is the limiting component.
These are 4340 chromoly or EN30B billet, precision CNC machined, with stroke, main journal and rod journal all specified on the order. Bryant Pontiac billet cranks are stocked at 4.250" and 4.500" stroke with knife edge and bull nose profiling and center counterweights.

More About Billet Crankshafts
1. When billet is the right call
Most Pontiac builds never need one. The ones that do have usually run into a wall the catalogue cannot get past.
| The combination does not exist | Billet lets you specify stroke, main journal diameter and rod journal diameter independently. If no forged crank is cut the way your block and rods need, this is the route. |
| Race duty | Milled from premium 4340 chromoly or EN30B bar stock and precision CNC machined rather than forged and finished. |
| Profiling | The Bryant cranks Butler stocks come with knife edge and bull nose profiling and center counterweights, which is a deliberate choice about windage and how the crank carries its mass. |
| Lead time is real | A custom billet crank is built to order. Plan the engine around that, not the other way round. |
2. What you specify
The order sheet is the part. Nothing here is assumed.
| Stroke | Butler stocks Bryant billet cranks at 4.250" and 4.500". Custom strokes are quoted to your specification. |
| Mains | The Bryant cranks listed here are cut with 3.00" mains — the 326, 350, 389, 400 and aftermarket block journal size. Other main sizes are available on a custom order. |
| Rod journal and rod length | Both Bryant cranks use 2.200" big-block rod journals. The 4.250" is listed against a 6.800" rod and the 4.500" against a 6.700" rod — the profiling is cut for that rod, so it is not an interchangeable choice. |
| Hub register | 2.75", matching the rest of the Pontiac crank range. |
3. Bob weight, balancing and the key
Two practical details on this page that catch people, both straight out of Butler's product data.
| Rough balance | The Bryant cranks are rough balanced to 2300 gram bob weights. Final balancing is done to your actual assembly — Butler weighs and pin fits the rods and pistons, computer balances the crank to them, and ships a balance card. |
| Bob weight service | If you are supplying your own assembly, Butler will balance a crank to a bob weight you provide. A neutral balanced crank must use a neutrally balanced flexplate, flywheel and balancer. |
| The key | These cranks require a 3/16 square key — not a stick Woodruff key. Find that out now rather than during assembly. |
A billet crank is a conversation, not a click. Have the block, the rods, the intended rpm and the bob weight in front of you and call — that is the fastest way to get one specified correctly the first time.
