Height, Plenum and Flange — Intake and Carb Spacers for Pontiac V8s
Two different jobs live on this page. A carb spacer lifts the carburetor off the manifold to lengthen the intake mixture column and add plenum volume, and an adapter lets a carburetor bolt to a flange it was never made for. Air cleaner spacers do a third job entirely — buying clearance above the carb.

1. Carb Spacers: Plenum Volume and Heat
A spacer is a tuning part. Raising the carburetor above the intake flange increases plenum area and extends the length of the intake mixture column, which improves air and fuel distribution and shifts the torque curve. It also moves the carburetor further from engine heat.

2. Adapters: Making the Flange Fit
| Square bore to spread bore | an Edelbrock adapter plate .100 inch thick that mounts a square-bore carburetor to the spread-bore carb pad on an Edelbrock intake. Steel, open center, hardware and gaskets included — for Edelbrock manifolds only. |
| Large four-barrel to small four-barrel | a .500 inch thick adapter that mounts a large or medium base 1-11/16 inch port Holley or AFB carburetor to a smaller four-barrel manifold, and a tapered version stepping 1-11/16 inch down to 1-7/16 inch. |

3. Air Cleaner Spacers and the Shaker Limit
These are a different part with a similar name. They sit between the carburetor and the air cleaner base to clear a fuel line, a choke tower or a linkage arm.
| What they are | aluminum, 5.125 inch neck, with an O-ring seal on the bottom face and a recessed step on top for the air cleaner flange to drop into. Stocked in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1-1/2 inch heights. |
| Drop base compatibility | the 1/4 through 1 inch versions with the recessed lip work with a Butler PTF drop base, though you may have to fit the air cleaner base to the spacer. |
| The hard limit | the tallest spacers are not for a car equipped with a shaker. Butler drop base units only allow up to 7/8 inch, so anything above that is for a conventional hood. |
One more real-world note: Russell and Holley dual inlet carburetor fuel line kits will require a spacer for use on an Edelbrock Performer intake. If that is your combination, order the spacer with the line.
