When Stock Length Runs Out — Non Stock Length Valves for Pontiac V8s
Non stock length valves are for Pontiac heads that have moved past what a factory-length valve can do. A CNC ported head, a raised spring pocket or a big dual or triple spring package all want more valve above the guide, and a longer valve is how you get the install height a serious spring needs.

1. When You Need a Longer Valve
This is a deliberate build decision made at the head shop, not a catalog substitution.
| Install height | a big dual or triple spring needs a taller installed height than a stock Pontiac head gives. A longer valve is the cleanest way to get there once the spring pockets have been cut. |
| Ported and aftermarket heads | CNC ported castings and aftermarket heads often relocate the spring seat or use a taller boss, which puts stock-length valves out of range. |
| High lift | the more lift the cam makes, the more room the spring needs between install height and coil bind. Length at the valve is part of that math. |

These are Ferrea 6000 Ultimate Race Series valves, sold as sets.
| 2.190" x 5.344" at 45 degrees | a competition intake valve set for packages that need both a large head diameter and extra length. |

3. What Else Has to Change
A longer valve moves everything above and below it. Plan the whole column.
| Pushrod length | a taller valve raises the rocker tip, so the pushrod gets shorter or longer depending on the geometry. Measure with an adjustable checker, do not reuse a stock rod. |
| Retainers and locks | confirm the retainer matches your spring outside diameter and your lock angle, and remember that a plus .050 retainer stacks on top of the length change. |
| Seals and shims | re-measure install height with the actual valve, retainer and locks, then shim to the spring spec. Butler stocks hardened shims in .015", .030" and .060" for cast iron and Edelbrock heads. |
Non stock length valves are ordered against a head that has already been measured. Send us the head work and the spring spec and we will confirm the length before anything is cut.
