6.800" Stroker Length Rods (2.200" BBC Rod Journal)
Pontiac V8 6.800" Stroker Length Rods (2.200" BBC Rod Journal)
The Stroker Standard — 6.800" Stroker Length Rods (2.200" BBC Rod Journal) for Pontiac V8s
6.800" stroker rods are the workhorse length in a modern Pontiac stroker. They run the 2.200" big block Chevy rod journal and are what Butler specifies on 4.250" stroke short blocks and on the aftermarket IA II builder kits, which is why this is the deepest rod selection on the site.
Butler stocks Eagle, Scat, Manley, Molnar, Callies, Crower and Oliver in forged H-beam, forged I-beam and billet I-beam, across every ARP bolt grade.

More About 6.800" Stroker Length Rods (2.200" BBC Rod Journal)
1. Where the 6.800 inch rod goes
| 4.250" stroke | Butler's 400, 428 and 455 short block kits at 4.250" stroke are built on 6.800" rods. |
| Aftermarket blocks | Butler's IA II builder kits list 6.800" Eagle rods with ARP 2000 bolts on 4.250" to 4.500" stroke cranks. |
| 2.200" BBC journal | Standard across this page, with a 2.100" small block Chevy journal version available in the Oliver billet line for a crank ground that way. |
2. Forged H-beam, the mainstream choice
| Eagle 3D | Forged 4340 H-beam with 7/16" ARP 8740 or ARP 2000 bolts, alignment sleeves, weight matched to plus or minus one gram, recommended for competition use up to 1500 horsepower with L19 bolts. |
| Eagle 4D | The high horsepower and power adder version, with a beam .080" wider and more material in the critical stress points. Eagle rates it stronger than the 3D rod with an L19 bolt, using ARP 2000 hardware. |
| Scat Pro Sport | 4340 forged H-beam with a doweled cap for specific cap to rod alignment, in ARP 8740 or ARP 2000, aimed at high horsepower, supercharged and nitrous engines. |
| Manley H-beam | Available in ARP 8740, ARP 2000 and L19, averaging about 825 grams, finished to the same tolerances as Manley's Pro Series rods. |
| Molnar | 4340 forged H-beam with ARP 2000 bolts, plus a dedicated power adder version for high boost and large nitrous loads. |
| Callies Compstar | ARP L19 bolts standard, bushed, .990" pins, torqued to 92 ft-lbs with Callies EP #3 lube or .005 to .006" of stretch. |
3. I-beam and billet options
| Eagle SIR 5140 I-beam | Forged 5140 with 7/16" ARP 8740 bolts and .990" pins, bushed. |
| Crower Sportsman I-beam | 4340 forged, made in America, 7/16" cap screw bolts rated at 180,000 psi, 70 ft-lb torque spec. |
| Manley Pro Series billet I-beam | Machined from 4340 billet, in ARP 2000 or L19. |
| Oliver billet I-beam | E4340 chrome moly billet with L19 bolts, with a MAX Series version for the heaviest duty, and a 2.100" small block Chevy journal version. |
4. Choosing bolt grade and getting it tight
| ARP 8740, 190,000 psi | Enough for a strong naturally aspirated street stroker. |
| ARP 2000, 220,000 psi | The sensible default once there is boost, nitrous or sustained high rpm in the plan. |
| L19 | Top grade, and what the highest horsepower ratings on this page are quoted with. |
| Torque by brand | Callies calls for 92 ft-lbs with its own lube. Crower lists 70 ft-lbs. Molnar rods want 30 ft-lbs plus 65 degrees or .0070 to .0075" of stretch. Use the manufacturer's procedure and the lubricant it names, and use a stretch gauge where one is specified. |
Pick the rod after the crank journal and stroke are settled, and order the pistons to the rod. Compression height is the number that ties all three together, and Butler can confirm it before anything is machined.
