The Parts the Pan Does Not Include — Valley Pan Accessories for Pontiac V8s
A Pontiac V8 valley pan almost never arrives complete. The pan itself is a stamping or a casting; the gasket, the PCV valve, the grommet it pushes into and the bolts or studs that hold the pan down are all separate parts, and they are not interchangeable between pan designs.
Butler stocks the long and short 90 degree PCV valves, the matching grommets for each, pan-specific installation kits that bundle gasket, grommet, PCV and hardware, a replacement stud kit for thin aluminum pans, a PCV line kit for the RPM and Crosswind intakes and a block-off grommet for the 1973-74 SD455.

1. Match the PCV valve to the grommet, and both to the pan
There are two 90 degree PCV valves here and they take different grommets. Get this pairing wrong and the valve either will not seat or will not stay in.
| Long 90 degree PCV valve | typically used with stock or Tomahawk aftermarket valley pans, and it uses the Butler grommet sold for the Tomahawk pan. The plastic 90 degree fitting can be removed to make it straight, for 3/8 inch hose. |
| Short 90 degree PCV valve | works with Pontiac valley pans that have a PCV provision, and it must use the push-in rubber grommet with a .75 inch inside and 1.2 inch outside diameter. Same trick with the fitting for 3/8 inch hose. |
| Push-in grommet | besides serving the short PCV, it also installs the factory 3/4 inch vent pipe in valve covers with a 1.2 inch hole. |
2. Installation kits are pan-specific
Both kits contain the same list of items, a valley pan gasket, grommet, PCV valve and a bolt kit with two sealing washers, and they still are not interchangeable.

| For pre-1968 and the stock reproduction pan | the separate installation kit for those pans. It does not fit the Tomahawk. |
| For thin aluminum pans | a replacement stud kit with two studs, neoprene washers, lock nuts and a grommet. This one is only for the thin aluminum pans and will not work on the stock replacement Tomahawk pan. |
3. Routing and block-off
Two more parts solve specific problems. The PCV line kit for the Edelbrock RPM and Crosswind intakes routes the PCV hose under the intake rather than over it, and includes two feet of hose, a PCV, grommet, hose clamp and the fitting for those manifolds with a Tomahawk pan. For a 1973-74 SD455, where the original PCV lives in the oil fill cap, there is a block-off grommet that closes the pan provision instead.
