Cast Iron, RA4, Large Port- and Edlebrock Out of Box (Unported)
Pontiac V8 Cast Iron, RA4, Large Port- and Edlebrock Out of Box (Unported)
Sized for the Big Runner — Cast Iron, RA4, Large Port- and Edlebrock Out of Box (Unported) for Pontiac V8s
This is the large port intake gasket group: Ram Air IV and large port cast iron heads, and Edelbrock heads used out of the box with no porting done. The gaskets are cut at a 1.125" x 2.240" port — bigger than the standard D-port opening and sized to the larger runner.
Butler stocks SCE gaskets in this port size in .062" and .124" thickness, plus an Accu Seal Pro premium composite version. All of them are cut with extra material on the upper side so the gasket can be trimmed to match if the heads get ported later.

More About Cast Iron, RA4, Large Port- and Edlebrock Out of Box (Unported)
1. Who belongs on this page
Three groups of Pontiac end up here, and they have the port opening in common rather than the year.
| Ram Air IV | the factory large port heads, which have a noticeably bigger intake opening than a standard D-port head. |
| Large port cast iron | other factory large port castings that outgrow the standard 2.20" x 1.18" gasket. |
| Edelbrock out of the box | unported Edelbrock aluminum heads. Straight off the pallet they take this port size — once they go to a porter, move up to the ported Edelbrock and aftermarket gaskets. |
| The port | 1.125" x 2.240", which is the sizing for Edelbrock, RA4 and aftermarket heads in Butler's own description. |
2. Thickness, and what the thick one buys you
Butler stocks two thicknesses in this port, and the thick one solves a real fitment problem.
| .062" | the standard thickness for this port size, stocked in both the SCE gasket and the Accu Seal Pro premium composite version. |
| .124" | double thickness. Butler recommends it on Crosswind and Hurricane intakes so the manifold sits higher and fits better — a genuine fix, not a shim. |
| Why manifold height matters | when heads are milled or the block is decked, the intake drops down into the valley and the bolt angles no longer line up with the manifold flange. A thicker intake gasket raises the manifold back where it belongs. |
3. Extra material for porting
Every gasket in this group is cut oversize on the upper side for a reason.
| Cut to match | the extra material lets you scribe the gasket to your actual port and cut it, instead of leaving a lip in the airstream or an exposed gasket edge. |
| Accu Seal Pro | the premium composite version provides extra room on the upper side specifically for modified ports, in a .062" thickness. |
| Do it before assembly | scribe and trim with the head on the bench and the manifold test fit dry. Trying to sort a mismatched port with the engine in the car does not work. |
If your heads are stock D-port, you want the standard 65-79 gasket instead — the large port gasket will hang past the runner and expose gasket edge to the intake charge. If the heads are ported Edelbrocks, aftermarket castings or Ram Air V, move up to the ported and aftermarket group.
