Pontiac V8 1967-1969 Firebird 1st Gen F-Body
How Far In Do You Want to Go — 1967-1969 Firebird 1st Gen F-Body for Pontiac V8s
Every 1967-1969 Firebird suspension job comes down to one question: how far into the front end are you willing to go? Swapping springs, shocks and bushings is a weekend with hand tools. Changing the spindle and control arm geometry is a bigger commitment, and it pulls your wheel and brake choices into the decision with it.
RideTech covers both ends of that range for the 1st Gen F-Body at Butler, from the bolt-in StreetGRIP package through full coil-over and ShockWave air systems with StrongArm control arms, tall spindles and a rear 4-link.

More About 1967-1969 Firebird 1st Gen F-Body
1. Two depths of job
Both routes arrive as one box with instructions. What separates them is how much of the original front end stays on the car.
| Keep the factory layout | StreetGRIP swaps in lowering coil springs up front, composite leaf springs out back, adjustable shocks, Delrin bushings, tall ball joints and a bigger sway bar. Everything is a direct replacement for the original style parts, so nothing gets cut or relocated. |
| Rework the geometry | the coil-over and air systems bring upper and lower StrongArms, tall spindles and the MuscleBar front bar, and they replace the rear leaf setup with a bolt-on 4-link. Expect minor welding at the axle tube and a car that corners nothing like it did. |
2. Two details that change what you can order
Both of these catch people after the fact rather than before, and both are easy to plan around.
| Wheel size with hub spindles | the hub spindle version of the coil-over system runs C5, C6 and C7 Corvette hubs and will not fit behind anything smaller than a 17" wheel. If the car wears 15s and they are staying, the pin spindle version is your package. |
| Ride height by model year | the 1967 and 1968 cars have a bigger wheel opening than the 1969. RideTech sells optional drop kits for those two years that bring the body down further so the gap looks right. |
Coming out of a 1st Gen that has never been apart, do not overlook what the composite rear leaf springs in StreetGRIP are worth on their own. Linear rate and 70 lbs less unsprung weight is a real change in how the back of the car settles after a bump.
