Full Flow, Full Strength — Pushrods- Non Restricted for Pontiac V8s
Non restricted pushrods are the right rod when the engine's oiling circuit was designed to feed the top end through the pushrod, which covers stock and mild hydraulic flat tappet Pontiac V8s. Restricting a rod on an engine that does not need it starves the rockers; leaving one unrestricted on a solid roller floods the valve covers.

1. When You Do Not Want Restriction
Restriction follows the lifter. If the lifter does not demand it, do not add it.
| Hydraulic flat tappet | the factory Pontiac oiling arrangement feeds the rockers through the lifter and pushrod. A stock or mild hydraulic flat tappet engine wants that flow intact. |
| Stock rebuilds | if the engine is going back together essentially as it came apart, a non restricted rod is what was in it. |
| Where restriction belongs instead | solid roller lifters always require restrictors in the block or restricted pushrods, and retro-fit hydraulic rollers carry specific .020", .030" or .040" recommendations. Those builds belong in Butler's oil restricted pushrod category. |
2. Butler 5/16" .116" Wall One-Piece
This is the rod Butler builds for its own engines.

| Range of use | they can be used in any application from stock to all out race, so the same rod covers a rebuild and a later cam change. |

3. The 7/16" Dual Taper and Its One Restriction
Smith Brothers' big rod is here for high spring pressure valvetrains, but it comes with a fitment rule.
| What it is | a 7/16" diameter, .165" wall, three-piece dual taper chromemoly rod built to your length. The dual taper lets a large-diameter mid section clear the head while the ends stay conventional. |
| Cannot be used with guide plates | this is stated plainly on the product. If your heads run guide plates, this rod is not an option and you need the 5/16" hardened route instead. |
| Custom length only | you enter the desired length when ordering, so measure with an adjustable pushrod length checker first. Sold each and as a set. |
