Shop Equipment — Engine Cradles/Stands for Pontiac V8s
An engine cradle is shop equipment, not chassis hardware. It holds a finished or in-progress Pontiac V8 upright and stable on the floor so the engine can be moved, stored and shipped without resting on the pan or the studs. A lift plate and a hoist bracket are the other half of that job: getting the engine off the ground safely.
Butler builds its own 61-79 Pontiac V8 transport and storage cradle, the same one that ships with every Butler engine, and stocks a bolt-on wheel kit, an All Star Pontiac heavy duty cradle, a Pontiac engine hoist bracket and a carburetor-flange lift plate.

1. Cradles
A cradle bolts to the block and lets the engine sit square on the floor. That is what keeps an assembled short block from sitting on its oil pan for six months while the rest of the car gets finished.

2. Getting the Engine in the Air
| Pontiac engine hoist bracket | Butler's bracket mounts in the factory location on the front of the engine and is sold each, so plan on what your lift setup needs. |
| Carburetor flange lift plate | Butler's lift plate bolts to the intake carburetor flange and fits standard Holley 4150/4160 and 4500 Dominator, Rochester Quadrajet, Carter, Motorcraft, Edelbrock, Edelbrock Q-Jet and Carter AFB patterns. It is the fastest way to pick up a long block that is already topped with an intake. |
| Which one to use | the lift plate depends on the intake being bolted down and torqued, so if the intake is off or loose, use the hoist bracket in the factory location instead. |
If the engine is going into storage or across the country, the cradle and the hardware to bolt it to a pallet matter more than anything else on this page. Add the wheels if the engine has to move around the shop more than once.
