Pontiac V8 Full Size/Big Car
Big Car Hardware — Full Size/Big Car for Pontiac V8s
Full size Pontiacs are the Catalina, Bonneville, Grand Prix and 2+2, and their mounts do not follow the intermediate or F-body pattern. Butler catalogs them by year and displacement rather than by model alone, because a Catalina 389 and a Catalina 400 fall in different year brackets even though the car looks the same.
Butler stocks solid engine mounts for 1959-64 full size cars and 1968-69 Grand Prix with the 428, and polyurethane and stainless interlocking mounts covering Catalina 389 and 400 and Bonneville 389 and 400 applications.

More About Full Size/Big Car
1. Find Your Year and Displacement, Not Just the Model
Full size Pontiacs ran a long time and the mounting changed underneath a body style that did not. Butler's listings for this section are written around specific year and displacement brackets.
| Catalina | 389 cid for 1965-66 and 400 cid for 1967-70 are the brackets Butler's polyurethane mounts are cataloged under. |
| Bonneville | 389 cid for 1965-66 and 400 cid for 1968-70. |
| Grand Prix | Butler's solid mount set is cataloged for the 1968-69 Grand Prix with the 428 only. That is a narrow listing and the displacement is part of the fitment, not a footnote. |
| Early full size | the same solid mount set covers 1959-64 full size cars. |
| Shared family | these mounts are cataloged alongside the 67-69 Firebird and 72-74 X-body parts, so the big car and the first-gen F-body draw from the same mount family. |
2. Poly or Solid in a Heavy Car
| Polyurethane and stainless interlocking mounts | Butler's set is rated good for 650+ horsepower and the interlocking design keeps the halves captive under load. In a full size car, which has more body and more insulation than an F-body, poly is a very livable upgrade over tired rubber and it stops the engine rocking that wears out linkage, exhaust connections and accessory brackets. |
| Solid mounts | no isolation whatsoever. The engine is locked to the frame, which is what you want in a car built to launch hard. A Catalina or Bonneville is a cruiser by nature, and a solid mount gives back idle shake and drone that the factory spent real money removing, so think hard before you put one in a car you drive any distance. On an IA2 block, Butler calls for clearancing and notching higher before these will fit. |
| Header heat | Butler's note on the poly mounts applies here too. With headers or Ram Air manifolds, ceramic coating is highly recommended plus a heat shield or header wrap, since heat can melt or deteriorate polyurethane. Full length headers for 1965-68 Catalina, 2+2, Grand Prix and Bonneville applications run close to the mounts. |
Pin down the year and the displacement before you order, then choose by use: poly if the big car still gets driven, solid only if it is built to race.
