Pontiac V8 Tremec Manual Transmission Kits by American Powertrain
Built for Your Chassis — Tremec Manual Transmission Kits by American Powertrain for Pontiac V8s
American Powertrain ProFit kits are built around the Tremec TKX five-speed and engineered for one specific Pontiac chassis at a time. Rather than a gearbox and a box of guesses, you get the shifter in the factory position, a yoke, a speedometer solution, a mount and a tunnel patch that were made for your car.
Butler carries ProFit TKX kits for 1964-67 and 1968-72 A-body and for 1967-69, 1970-74 and 1975-81 F-body cars, rated at 600 ft-lbs with a 26-spline input.

More About Tremec Manual Transmission Kits by American Powertrain
1. What is in a ProFit kit
The contents vary slightly by body, but the core of every kit is the same.
| The transmission | a Tremec TKX rated at 600 ft-lb constant load, unmodified, with a 26-spline input shaft, 4616 chromoly gears and shafts, a one-piece counter shaft and brass cage bearings, new in box with full factory warranty. |
| Shifter in the right place | A-body kits use the TREMEC Flip Shifter in the OE four-speed shift position. F-body kits use the American Powertrain Revolution offset shifter mechanism, also in the OE four-speed position. |
| Driveline and speedo | a 1330 solid cryo hardened steel slip yoke, a mechanical speedometer conversion compatible with the OE cable, and a VSS wiring harness for an electronic speedometer or a fuel injection ECU. |
| Body and mounting | a rolled tapered steel tunnel patch, a low profile ISO-X ballistic mount, a weatherseal reverse light harness, a roller steel pilot bearing, a shift knob, hardware and instructions. |
| F-body crossmember | the F-body kits add the X-Factor modular aluminum crossmember, certified to 1000 horsepower with 3.5" exhaust tube clearance. That clearance number matters if you are also running a 3" exhaust system. |
2. What is deliberately not included
| Bellhousing | not included. American Powertrain states the kit is compatible with any GM four-speed bellhousing, and Butler stocks the BOP bells that fit. |
| Clutch disc | not included, and the kit requires a 26-spline clutch disc. Order the clutch and the flywheel with the kit. |
| Driveshaft | not included. American Powertrain's instructions have you install the transmission first and take the dimensions, then have the shaft built. |
| Flywheel | not included, and it has to match how your engine was balanced. Butler's flywheels are offered in both neutral and stock balance for exactly this reason. |
3. Torque capacity and the upgrade path
The standard kit is rated for up to 600 ft-lbs, which covers most street Pontiacs including a healthy 455. American Powertrain also offers a TKO Extreme upgrade rated at 950 ft-lbs, with upgraded internal components and cryo treatment, specifically to handle Butler Performance high torque and high horsepower engines. If you are putting a Butler stroker in front of it, have that conversation before you order rather than after. These kits are typically listed as shipping in three to four weeks, so plan the build calendar around that. Call the shop with your year, your body and what the engine makes for torque.
