Holley Carburetors - Avenger

Pontiac V8 Avenger

The Easy One — Avenger for Pontiac V8s

The Holley Street Avenger is the easiest carburetor on this shelf to live with. It runs vacuum secondaries, so the secondary side opens on engine demand rather than on your right foot, and it arrives with a factory preset electric choke and a street calibration Holley already sorted out. That is the carburetor for a Pontiac that starts cold, idles in traffic and pulls a heavy car.

Butler stocks the vibratory polished 670, 770 and 870 CFM Street Avengers, all 4150 square-bore, each shipped with a fuel line kit so the install does not stall at the parts counter.

More About Avenger

1. Who the Avenger Is For

This is the street end of the Holley range. If the Pontiac is a driver — a GTO, LeMans, Firebird or full-size car that sees cold mornings, stop-and-go and highway miles — the Avenger asks the least of you.

Vacuum secondariesthe secondaries open on manifold signal, which is far more forgiving on a heavy car with a stock converter and tall gears than a mechanical linkage that dumps all four barrels the instant you ask.
Quick change secondary housingthe vacuum housing cap comes off without pulling the carburetor, and springs are included, so you can bias the car toward throttle response or economy in a few minutes.
Electric choke, presetfactory preset for cold starts. Nothing to wire to a heat tube, nothing to cable to the dash.
Vacuum portsone timed spark port, two full manifold ports and a PCV port, which is enough to feed distributor advance, power brakes and PCV without tapping the manifold.

2. What It Costs You Going Up the Ladder

The Avenger trades ultimate tuning depth for out-of-the-box manners. It has no four-corner idle circuit and no billet metering blocks, so a very large cam with low idle vacuum is not its natural habitat — that is where the Double Pumper and the XP series start to make sense. In exchange, this is the only rung of the ladder that will happily choke itself on a 30-degree morning.

Sizes stocked670, 770 and 870 CFM, all in the shiny vibratory polished finish. All are 4150 model carburetors with a 1.688 inch throttle bore and straight leg boosters.
Automatic transmissioncompatible with GM, Chrysler and Ford kickdown linkage, though additional parts may be required — check Butler's linkage and adapter shelf before install day.
Included fuel lineevery Street Avenger ships with a fuel line kit, and every one is 100 percent wet-flow tested by Holley before it is boxed.

If you want a carburetor that behaves like a factory piece but flows like an aftermarket one, this is the shelf. If the cam is big enough that idle quality is already a project, look one rung up.
