Pontiac V8 Top End Power Packages
The Top Half, Matched — Top End Power Packages for Pontiac V8s
A top end power package is the half of a Pontiac build above the deck, sold as one matched combination. Heads, a port-matched intake, a cam and lifters, a timing set, head bolts and the full gasket set, chosen to work together so you are not guessing whether a head, a cam and a manifold that were picked separately will get along.
Butler splits them into two tiers: 450-550 HP packages on unported Edelbrock heads, and 575-700+ HP pump gas packages on Butler CNC ported round port and wide port heads. These are the same build kits Butler uses in its own engines.

More About Top End Power Packages
1. Which Tier Is Yours
The two tiers are not the same package with a bigger cam. They differ in the head, the valve size, the intake and what fuel the engine will tolerate.
| 450-550 HP | Unported Edelbrock heads, D-port or round port, 72cc or 87cc, hydraulic flat tappet or hydraulic roller. The D-port version keeps the exhaust already on the car. |
| 575-700+ HP pump gas | Butler CNC ported round port heads at 325 or 340 CFM, or the wide port head at 370+ CFM, all with 2.19"/1.77" valves and roller cams. |
| The deciding question | What is the short block, and what fuel will it see. Displacement and octane move the answer more than the horsepower number you have in mind does. |
2. What a Package Saves You
The value is in the matching, not in the discount.
| Proven combinations | These are actual build kits used in Butler's shops, drawn from combinations that have powered some of the highest performing Pontiac engines in the world. |
| Port matched intake | The manifold is matched to the heads it ships with, rather than bolted on and hoped for. |
| Cam spec'd to you | Choose the idle quality and power level and Butler specs and selects the cam, instead of you reading lobe numbers off a chart. |
| The small stuff | Head bolts, intake bolts, valve cover gaskets, exhaust and intake gaskets, head gaskets and a pushrod length checking tool are in the kit. |
3. What You Still Have to Supply
Read this before you assume the package is the whole job.
| The short block | Not included. If the bottom end is coming apart too, Butler also builds engine builder packages that pair a balanced rotating assembly with a top end kit for your block. |
| Rocker arms | Not included on the 450-550 HP kits. Butler recommends 1.5 ratio there so pushrod slotting is not necessary. The wide port packages do include T&D shaft rockers. |
| Exhaust | Round port heads need round port headers. That is a separate purchase and a real one. |
| Hood clearance | Most of the intake options sit taller than stock. Shaker cars need a drop base air cleaner or a stock-height manifold. |
Call with the displacement, the fuel, the converter and gear, and what exhaust is on the car. That is enough to put you in the right tier in one conversation, and cheaper than finding out on the dyno.
