Retro Top on a Modern Engine — Valve Covers- Late Model Pontiac LS for Pontiac V8s
Late model Pontiac and LS valve covers answer a different question than a traditional Pontiac V8 cover does. The coils live on top of the engine from the factory, so the real decision is whether you hide them under the cover or relocate them off the engine entirely.
Butler CNC engraves these in our own shop — a two-piece hidden coil retro set in black or polished, and the cast C-Series and S-Series covers for a relocated-coil setup, all with a choice of Pontiac, Butler, GTO or Trans Am logos, plus coil relocation brackets to finish the job.

1. Hidden coils or relocated coils
This is the fork in the road, and everything else follows from it.
| Two-piece hidden coil set | the coils mount to the valve cover base and a top piece covers them, so the finished engine reads like a traditional cover instead of a coil rail. Inside height of the cover is about 1.75", and overall height with the coil cover installed is 4.25". Hardware and gaskets are included, in black powder coat or polished aluminum. |
| C-Series | a cast-finish cover with a polished cap, available polished or textured black. It has no coil mounts, so the coils have to go somewhere else. |
| S-Series | cast aluminum in a Premium Fusion Coat or polished finish, with a matching cap included. Also without coil mounts. |
2. If you relocate the coils
The C-Series and S-Series covers give the cleanest top, but they mean the ignition coils need a new home before the covers go on.
| Remote mount brackets | Butler stocks coil relocation bracket kits that move the coils off the covers. Coils are not included. |
| Check what coil you are running | the bracket kits are listed by what they fit — one covers LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7 and LS9, the other is set up for LSX, LS1, LS3 and swap applications including Holley Smart Coil and AMP EFI IGN-1A coils. Match the bracket to the coil you actually own. |
| Plan the wiring | moving the coils changes the plug wire lengths, so sort that out when you order the covers. |
3. Logos and custom engraving
All of this is cut on our own machines, which is why the logo list is a menu rather than a fixed part number.
| Standard logos | Pontiac, Butler, GTO, Trans Am in the newer style, and Trans Am in the Bandit style. On the hidden coil covers the engraving goes in the center flat area only. |
| Custom logo covers | powder coated black and CNC engraved with your own artwork. Lettering is preferred, and a logo can be used for a design fee that covers converting the art into a usable CNC milling file — DXF is preferred but any vector will work. Email the art in before you buy, and nothing gets cut until you approve a proof. |
| Breather holes | the C-Series and S-Series covers can be drilled for breathers where you want them. Enter the drilling locations in the text box, add the breathers to the cart, and they arrive ready to run. |
Decide the coil question first. It is the one thing you cannot change later without buying a second set of covers.
