Pontiac V8 Complete Cylinder Heads- CNC Ported

The Flow Ladder — Complete Cylinder Heads- CNC Ported for Pontiac V8s

CNC ported cylinder heads are where Butler's head shop does the work before the pair ever ships. CNC porting is repeatable in a way hand work is not, which matters most at the flow levels where a lot of material has to come out — the ports end up far more consistent port to port and head to head.

The programs form a ladder. D-port runs to 325+ CFM, round port to 340 CFM, the CNC wide port reaches 370+ CFM, and the Edelbrock Victor Pro Port castings sit above all of it as a race-only, aftermarket-block head.

More About Complete Cylinder Heads- CNC Ported

1. Where Each Family Tops Out

Start with the flow number the combination actually needs, then see which casting can reach it.

D-port, to 325+ CFMThe ceiling on a D-port Pontiac head, and the only tier that keeps the factory-style exhaust port and your existing headers.
Round port, 310 to 340 CFMThree porting levels on the Ram Air IV core, with the chamber available hand-polished or CNC-machined.
Wide port, 370+ CFMFully CNC ported intake and exhaust runners, in 72cc and 87cc, hydraulic or solid roller.
Victor Pro PortRaised intake ports, 50-52cc chambers and a 2.350" intake valve, ported by BES. Aftermarket blocks only.

2. Each Step Up Costs You Something Besides Money

This is the part to read before picking a flow number off a chart. Every tier adds a requirement.

Valve sizeThe 310 and 315 CFM programs run 2.11" intakes. At 325 CFM and above, 2.19"/1.77" is required.
Exhaust systemAnything round port, wide port or Pro Port needs Ram Air IV style headers.
Rockers and liftersWide port requires offset shaft rockers; the solid roller version also requires offset solid roller lifters. Victor Pro Port requires both shaft rockers and offset solid roller lifters.
Intake manifoldAbove the standard round port, the manifold has to have the port height to be matched — and the block itself has to qualify once you reach Pro Port, where a 4.310" or larger bore is recommended.

3. What Assembled Complete Includes

The Butler Built ported heads ship ready to bolt on rather than as a box of parts.

ValvetrainFerrea stainless steel valves, springs matched to your application, chromoly locks, retainers and locators, and Viton valve stem seals.
Hardware and machiningARP rocker studs and guide plates, polished chambers, and pushrod holes slotted for 1.65 rockers, all included in the price.
Already own castingsEdelbrock heads you already have can be sent in and ported rather than replaced.

Butler has flow bench, dyno and track data behind these combinations, from seven-second race cars to daily drivers. Tell us the displacement, the cam, the converter and the fuel, and the right rung on the ladder is usually obvious inside one phone call.
