Pontiac V8 Pulley Kits- V-Belt
Buy the Set — Pulley Kits- V-Belt for Pontiac V8s
A V-belt pulley kit takes the guesswork out of the front of the engine. Instead of matching a crank pulley to a water pump pulley to an alternator pulley one part at a time, you get a set cut for the same groove spacing and the same Pontiac V8 water pump depth, so the belts run in plane the first time.
Butler stocks March Performance two and three groove aluminum sets for the later engines, CVF billet high-flow kits for the early and late water pumps, Butler's own 8-bolt to 11-bolt conversion kits, and the CVF alternator and power steering brackets that go with them.

More About Pulley Kits- V-Belt
1. Why a set beats three separate part numbers
Pontiac front ends went through enough changes that individually correct pulleys can still disagree with each other. Groove spacing, pulley depth and diameter all have to agree across the crank, the pump and the alternator. A kit is drawn as one assembly, which removes the two failure modes builders hit most: a belt that will not sit in plane, and a drive ratio that spins the pump too slowly at idle.
2. Early water pump or late water pump
Measure from the water pump mounting flange to the block before you shop. That number, not the model year, puts you in the right kit.
| 1964 to 1968 pump, 3.9 inch flange to block, 8 bolt | the CVF six-bolt high flow ratio kit, with a two groove water pump pulley, a two groove crank pulley and a single groove alternator pulley. Built to work with the stock power steering and alternator brackets. |
| 1968 dampener with the early pump | CVF's four-bolt high flow kit, the same three-piece layout cut for the 1968 transition combination. |
| Late 1969 1/2 and newer 11-bolt, 4.5 inch pump | the March sets, which require the 1968 and newer four-bolt balancer with no cast V-groove. |
| 8-bolt to 11-bolt conversion | Butler's two groove crank and water pump pulley kit in billet finish, listed for 1968 to 1970 and for 1964 to 1968 engines being converted to the later cover. |
3. Two groove or three groove
The crank pulley carries the extra groove, and air conditioning is what makes you need it.
| Two groove | the March 1971 and later set pairs a 6 1/8 inch two groove crank pulley with a 6 1/8 inch two groove water pump pulley and a 2 11/32 inch single groove alternator pulley, with the mounting hardware included. |
| Three groove for A/C | the March 1971 to 1979 set uses a three groove crank pulley with the same two groove water pump pulley and alternator pulley, giving the compressor its own belt. |
4. Brackets: the part people forget
Pulleys only solve half of a front end. CVF's mid mount alternator bracket for V-belt applications mounts on the driver's side with an adjustable tensioning rod and works with OEM or CVF pulleys, and there is a combined power steering and alternator bracket in 6061-T6 billet for the same side. Alternator, pump and pulleys are not included with either; you are buying brackets and hardware.
