Dual Sync / Hyperspark (EFI Ready)
Pontiac V8 Dual Sync / Hyperspark (EFI Ready)
Timing by ECU — Dual Sync / Hyperspark (EFI Ready) for Pontiac V8s
Once a Pontiac V8 is running EFI, the distributor stops being a timing computer and becomes a sensor. These billet units use Hall effect sensors to hand the ECU a clean crank signal, and in dual sync form a cam signal as well, so the ECU can control timing and fire the right injector.
Butler stocks the Holley Pontiac Dual-Sync billet distributor with both crank and cam sensors, and the Holley HyperSpark distributor that plugs into any Holley Sniper EFI system, each in shiny or black billet.

More About Dual Sync / Hyperspark (EFI Ready)
1. Dual Sync or HyperSpark
They look similar and they are not interchangeable. What decides it is what your EFI system needs to know.
| Dual Sync | Carries two Hall effect sensors, crank and cam. The cam signal is what a sequential multi-port system needs to sync an injector to the correct cylinder, and what a coil-on-plug setup needs to fire the correct coil. A blank cap is available for coil-on-plug. On a Sniper 1 or Sniper 2 install the cam sync wire is simply terminated. |
| HyperSpark | One Hall effect crank trigger sensor, and plug and play with all Holley Sniper EFI systems. It is the easiest way to add timing control to a Sniper install, and it comes with a patented clear installation cap so you can see what you are doing while you drop it in. |
| Both | CNC billet housings, integrated LEDs for setup, and a shutter wheel pinned and welded to the shaft rather than pressed. |
2. What These Do Not Work Without
This is the part that catches carbureted buyers looking for a nice billet distributor.
| An ECU | Both of these are EFI parts. The complete HyperSpark ignition kit is built around a Holley EFI ECU and is not a carbureted-engine package as a complete unit. |
| A box and a coil | The HyperSpark distributor does not include the HyperSpark CD ignition box or the HyperSpark ignition coil. Those are sold separately and are stocked here. Taken on their own, that CD box and coil can be run with a conventional advance distributor. |
| Rotor phasing | Most EFI systems want ignition timing advanced for the ECU, which upsets rotor phasing. An adjustable race rotor is stocked in the caps and rotors section to correct it. |
3. Gear and Shaft
Every distributor in this group is a .500" shaft.
| What ships on it | The Holley dual sync comes with a hardened steel gear and the HyperSpark comes with a cast gear, both .500". |
| What Butler recommends | On these EFI distributors Butler's own kit listings call out the BOP polymer .500" gear as the recommended gear material, which matters most behind a roller camshaft. |
If you are still deciding on the EFI system itself, settle that first. The distributor follows the ECU, not the other way around.
