The 1967-69 Firebird is short, low and tight under the floor, which is why the systems built for it lean on crossflow designs. Instead of two mufflers hung where there is no room, a crossflow system puts a single transverse casing across the car and keeps the tailpipes and the crossover up out of the way.

1. Why crossflow on a first-gen car
Pypes describes its crossflow design as the first system on the market with a true straight-through flow path: one muffler casing, but two completely separate flow paths, one for each side of the car.

2. Crossover, material and fitment span

3. Tips are a year decision
Tips are not included with these systems, and the correct set depends on how your car exits.
| Quarter panel exit | Pypes calls for the EVT49 tip set for behind-the-tire exit, which it notes is common on 67-68 cars. |
| Rear bumper exit | the EVT58 set is for out-the-back cars, which Pypes notes is common on 69s. |
| Splitters | EVT10 splitter tips are listed as an option and require an additional tailpipe adapter kit. |
These are bolt-together systems designed to be installed at home. If you are running 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" headers on a 67-69 Firebird, confirm your collector size before ordering so the downpipe connection is right the first time.
