Pontiac V8 Tanks Inc Fuel Tanks-EFI Ready
Pick Your Own Pump — Tanks Inc Fuel Tanks-EFI Ready for Pontiac V8s
A Tanks Inc EFI-ready fuel tank gives you the baffled, corrosion-coated tank an in-tank pump needs while leaving the pump and sender choices open. That matters on a Pontiac V8 build where the power level, the gauge and the fuel system layout are not the same as the car next to it.
Butler stocks EFI-ready tanks for 1964-1972 GTO and LeMans, 1967-1998 Firebird, and Ventura, in standard and notched-corner versions, along with GPA series Walbro pump modules, tank straps and twist-on GM gas caps.

More About Tanks Inc Fuel Tanks-EFI Ready
1. What the tank brings
These are built specifically so an in-tank pump can live in them and keep feeding under load, which is what separates them from a stock replacement.
| Baffling | EFI style internal baffling with an extra large 4.3 liter internal fuel tray to prevent fuel pump starvation. Tanks Inc states the tray is an absolute necessity for fuel injection to stop starvation when accelerating and cornering. |
| Construction | Coated galvanized steel, then powder coated silver. The pump and sender are recessed so the tank installs with no modification to the car and looks like an OE tank once it is up. |
| Deeper than stock | The A-body tanks are listed as 1" deeper than stock at 37-1/4" x 30" x 7-3/4", and longer straps are included with the tank to suit. |
| Neck | A two-piece neck design that connects with the supplied 2" ID rubber hose. |
| Sender | Uses aftermarket five-bolt senders, with multiple ohm ranges available to work with factory or aftermarket gauges. |
2. Finding your application
Coverage runs from the first GTO through the last Firebird, and the notched-corner question comes up repeatedly.
| A-body | 1964 GTO and LeMans, 1965 LeMans, 1965-67 GTO with 1966-67 LeMans, 1968 GTO and LeMans, 1969-1970 GTO and LeMans, and 1971-1972 GTO and LeMans. |
| Firebird | 1967-68, 1969, 1970-73, 1974-78, 1979-81, 1982-92, 1993-97 and 1998. |
| Ventura | 1971-72 and 1973-1974. |
| Notched corner | The 1967-68 and 1969 Firebird tanks and the 1969-1970 and 1971-1972 GTO and LeMans tanks are each offered in standard and notched-corner versions. Look at the tank in the car before ordering. |
3. Choosing the pump module
The tank is sold with or without a pump, and the GPA series module is what goes in it.
| Built for these tanks | The GPA series module is designed for Tanks Inc and Sniper tanks that already have the factory-installed reservoir tray, not for converting a plain tank. |
| Flow ratings | Butler lists a 255 lph high flow module for up to 630 hp and a 400 lph high performance module for 500 to 1000 hp. Tanks Inc offers multiple operating ranges to supply up to approximately 1000 horsepower. |
| Pump quality | Genuine Walbro, an OE validated manufacturer, chosen for hot fuel handling and an internal bypass channel that recovers better from aeration. |
| Mounting plate | A heavy 10 gauge no-warp mounting plate, yellow-zinc plated, with fittings for supply, return, vent and the electrical connector, and 1/4" NPT supply and return lines. The internal wiring harness, supply line, return line, filter sock and insulator sleeve are included. |
| Shallow tank caution | Some very shallow tanks will not accommodate the larger GPA pumps. |
4. Straps, caps and the rest of the install
The supporting parts are in this subcategory too, so the whole job can go on one order.
| Straps | Butler stocks gas tank straps for 1968-1972 GTO and LeMans, 1967-69 Firebird and 1974-81 Firebird. |
| Caps | Twist-on GM gas caps in plain, deep cam and shallow cam versions. |
| Venting | A tank converted to fuel injection must be properly vented. The rollover vent valve threads into the pump assembly's top plate fitting. |
| Running it on a carburetor | Butler also stocks complete tank and in-tank pump solutions set up for carbureted use, which put a high pressure in-tank pump behind a bypass regulator so you get in-tank quiet without switching to EFI. |
If you know the power level and the gauge you are working with, this is the tank that lets you build the fuel system around them instead of accepting a preset combination. Confirm the notched-corner version, pick the pump from the flow rating, and order the vent valve with it.
