1. Pan Bolts or Pan Studs
Both seal the pan. Studs make the pan easier to hang and easier to pull without dragging the gasket, which matters when the engine is in the car.

2. Oil Pump and Filter Housing

3. Torque Low and Even
These are the numbers people get wrong by the widest margin.
| Oil pan | 12 ft-lbs with engine oil. Not 30, not "good and tight" — a crushed rail leaks worse than a loose one. |
| Oil pump bolts | 30 ft-lbs with engine oil. Oil pump cover bolts are 15 ft-lbs. |
| Windage tray | 15 ft-lbs with engine oil, if a tray is going in under the same studs. |
If the pan comes off often for a drag car or a track car, studs pay for themselves the first time you slide the pan straight down instead of fishing bolts past the crossmember.
