You Own the Castings, We Do the Work — CNC Porting and Head Services for Pontiac V8s
CNC porting and head services is the send-us-your-heads side of Butler's head shop. You already own the castings; Butler does the work. Porting is sold by flow target and port style, and the upgrade packages run a customer's out-of-the-box heads through the same blueprinting process Butler uses on its own Butler Built sets.
Programs cover Edelbrock D-port and round port heads from 310+ CFM to 340+ CFM, plus Edelbrock-to-Butler and Speedmaster-to-Butler upgrade packages in assembled and ready-to-assemble versions, and a prepaid cylinder head shipping service to get the cores here intact.

1. Porting Is Sold by Flow Target and Port Style
Each service is a set of two customer-supplied Edelbrock heads, and the number in the name is the intake flow the program is written to.
| 310+ CFM, D-port | The entry tier on the D-port casting. |
| 325+ CFM, D-port | The top of the standard D-port program. |
| 315+ CFM, round port | The equivalent first step on a round port head. |
| 325-330+ CFM, round port | The middle round port tier. |
| 340+ CFM, round port | The top of the standard round port program, offered on bare heads. |
2. Valve Size Is Part of the Program, Not an Option
This is the single most common surprise on a porting order. The bowl gets cut for the valve the program was designed around.
| 310+ D-port and 315+ round port | Machined for 2.11"/1.66" valves, with an upgrade to 2.11"/1.77" available. |
| 325+ D-port, 325-330+ and 340+ round port | Require 2.19"/1.77" intake and exhaust valves. There is no small-valve version of these tiers. |
| Plan the valvetrain around it | A bigger valve changes what you spend on valves and can change the spring package, so price it with the porting rather than after. |
3. What the Porting Service Does Not Include
Read this part before you ship. It is all stated plainly on the service listings.
| Previously ported heads | The service is offered only for heads that have not been previously hand or CNC ported. The upgrade packages make one exception, for heads Butler ported. |
| Disassembly | Sending complete heads instead of bare ones is an extra charge. Bare, disassembled heads are the cheapest thing to send. |
| Valve job | A valve job is required on ported heads and is a separate service. Ask for it to be added when you order. |
| Inspection first | Heads are inspected on arrival and Butler contacts you if any optional services are recommended before the porting starts. Nothing extra happens without a call. |
4. Butler Built or Butler Process Upgrade Packages
Separate from porting: taking a set of out-of-the-box heads and making them a blueprinted set. Offered for Edelbrock heads and for Speedmaster heads and castings.
| Common to both | Heads are disassembled, cleaned, pressure tested and the deck milled for flatness. No existing head parts are reused except the castings, and heads can be sent assembled or bare. |
| Butler Built, assembled | Blueprinted and fully assembled, ready to bolt on. |
| Butler Process, ready to assemble | Blueprinted and sent back to you or your builder to assemble, with standard port size or CNC ported options up to 340 cfm. |
| What you choose | 1.66" or 1.77" upgraded valve job and valves, with the 2.19" valve used on 325 and 340 cfm CNC ported heads; Ferrea 5000 or 6000 series valves; chromoly or titanium retainers; 1.5 rocker or slotted for 1.65; flat tappet or hydraulic roller spring option; milling to a custom cc; Stealth logo removal with optional paint; and chamber softening for boost on certain casting numbers. |
5. Getting the Heads Here
Freight damage on a bare aluminum head is an avoidable problem, and Butler sells the fix as a service.
| Cylinder head shipping service | Butler head boxes with foam inserts, cylinder head bags, and prepaid UPS Ground labels from you to Butler. Package them, apply the labels, drop them at any UPS location. |
| The fine print | Lower 48 only, and packages are not insured by default. Ask and insurance can be added to any lower 48 destination. |
| Return freight | Return shipping is calculated at checkout. The inbound shipping option is continental US only. |
| Used with a quote | The shipping service is meant to go with a custom head quote arranged in advance or with a Let Butler Build Your Heads package. |
Order the porting tier and the shipping option together, send the heads bare if you can, and tell us the cam and the compression you are targeting in the order notes. Everything else Butler will call you about before a cutter touches the casting.
