6.625" stock length rods are the Pontiac factory dimension, running the 2.250" Pontiac rod journal. They matter for two very different builds: a numbers-matching rebuild that wants a direct replacement for tired cast rods, and a stroker that keeps the factory crank journal size.

1. Stock replacement or performance upgrade

2. Bolt grade, and why it decides the rod

| Torque specs differ by brand | Eagle's 5140 I-beam calls for 63 ft-lbs and .0059 to .0063" stretch with the supplied ARP lube. Molnar rods want 30 ft-lbs plus 65 degrees, or .0070 to .0075" of stretch. Read the instructions that come with your rods rather than reusing a number from another engine. |
3. Bushed or press fit
| Press fit | The pin is an interference fit in the rod, which is how the factory did it. Simpler and cheaper, and fine for a street rebuild. |
| Bushed full float | A bronze bushing in the small end with pin locks in the piston. Easier on the pin at high rpm and the usual choice on a performance build. Most Eagle, Scat and Molnar 6.625" rods are offered both ways. |

4. The 6.635 inch crossover option
Butler also lists an Eagle 4340 H-beam at 6.635" length on a 2.200" rod journal with .990" pins, bushed for a full floating pin. That rod belongs with a crank that was ground to the 2.200" big block Chevy journal rather than the 2.250" Pontiac size, and it is a common pairing on stroker cranks. Eagle publishes the detail on it: 7/16" ARP 8740 bolts, 2.325" housing bore, 0.991" big end width, 1.125" pin end width, about 810 grams, and a torque spec of 63 ft-lbs using ARP moly lube only.
