Pontiac V8 Butler Custom Procharger Kits

Boost on a Pontiac — Butler Custom Procharger Kits for Pontiac V8s

Butler Custom ProCharger Kits are the brackets, drives and hardware we designed and tested in house to hang an F-series ProCharger off the front of a Pontiac V8. Nobody mass produces a Pontiac blower bracket, which is why this is a Butler part number instead of a catalog item.

Four numbers cover it: complete cog drive and serpentine drive kits with the head unit included, and bracket-only versions of each for a builder who already owns a ProCharger. Every one of them ships with the BPI-1027 crank pinning kit.

More About Butler Custom Procharger Kits

1. Cog Drive or Serpentine Drive

This is the first fork and it sets the ceiling for the whole combination.

Cog drive kit, BPI-PCH-Kit-COGRated by Butler at up to 1250 hp. The toothed belt cannot slip, so ratio holds at the top of the run. It uses an ATI six-bolt drilled balancer shell and hub with a billet ATI hub adapter.
Serpentine drive kit, BPI-PCH-Kit-SERPRated up to 925 hp, built around a Romac balancer and a billet hub adapter, with newly designed brackets as of 2021. Quieter than a cog and plenty of drive for a strong pump gas combination.
Compression before boostFor pump gas 93 octane Butler suggests 8.75 to 9.5:1 on aluminum heads, depending on pulley size and boost level. An engine at 10:1 may reach that range simply by moving to a thicker Cometic head gasket.

2. Complete Kit or Bracket Kit

Complete kitsBillet Pontiac head block and mounting plate, an F1 ProCharger with hardware, the matching drive pulley, balancer and hub adapter, your choice of accessory drive crank pulley, billet spacer, ProCharger crank pulley and belt, tensioner, a 4150 carb hat and a blow off valve with ALM flange and T tube.
Bracket kits, BPI-PCH-Kit-COG-BRA and BPI-PCH-Kit-SERP-BRAThe same mounting hardware with no head unit or drive pulleys, for a builder supplying his own blower. The brackets are compatible with the P-1SC, P-1SC-1, P-1X, D-1, D-1SC, D-1X, F-1D, F-1A, F-1A91, F-1A94, F-1C, F-1R, F-1X and F-2.
The crank pinning kit is in the box either wayBPI-1027 is included with all four numbers. A blower belt loads the crank snout far harder than an accessory drive did, and a single factory keyway is thin insurance against the balancer slipping. The kit pins the crank and balancer with a 3/16 steel dowel without pulling the crank.

3. What the Kit Does Not Cover

Read this before you build the car around the blower.

Air conditioningThese kits work with an alternator and power steering, but not with AC. If the car keeps its AC, look at the TorqStorm serpentine systems instead.
Charge tubeNot included, because intake heights and routing vary too much to supply one that fits. Run an intercooler.
Balancer and crank pulleyThe supplied balancer must be used, and the crank pulley has to be drilled to match the bolt pattern.
First generation FirebirdThe kits fit under the hood of most Pontiac cars, but a 67-69 Firebird needs modifications.

If you are still choosing a drive, call the shop with your target power, your fuel and whether the car keeps AC. Those three answers usually decide it.
