Pontiac V8 Carb/EFI Bolt Kits
Bolting the Top On — Carb/EFI Bolt Kits for Pontiac V8s
Carburetor and EFI mounting hardware looks trivial until a stud is the wrong length and the throttle body sits on the gasket without clamping it, or the nuts bottom before the flange is pulled down. Stud length has to match what is stacked on the manifold — gasket only, or gasket plus spacer, plus whatever the carb flange is thick.
Butler stocks ARP Quadrajet and standard 5/16" carb stud kits, a Butler stainless Q-Jet fastener kit, and 1-1/2" and 3" stud kits that fit Edelbrock and Holley carbs, EFI throttle bodies and air valves.

More About Carb/EFI Bolt Kits
1. Quadrajet and Factory-Style
| ARP Quadrajet studs | ARP-200-2413 is a black oxide carburetor stud set of four, 5/16" with 1.700" and 4.400" lengths, covering both the short and the long positions a Q-jet uses. |
| ARP standard studs | ARP-200-2401 is a black oxide set of four 5/16-18/24 studs at 1.700" long. |
| Butler stainless | BPI-Bolt-Kit-Q-Jet is an eight-piece Q-Jet fastener kit in hex head Grade 5 bolts — the tidy option for an engine bay that is being detailed. |
2. Edelbrock, Holley and EFI Throttle Bodies
Aftermarket carbs and throttle bodies use a stud with two different threads: coarse into the intake, fine for the nut on top.
| 1-1/2" stud kits | BPI-Bolt-Kit-Carb-Stud includes four studs (5/16"-24 carb, 5/16"-18 intake), four washers and four nuts, and fits Edelbrock and Holley Sniper carbs, EFI throttle bodies and air valves. It is the suggested length for a carb and gasket with no spacer. EDL-8008 is Edelbrock's equivalent 1-1/2" kit. |
| 3" stud kit | TDP-2106 is a 3" carburetor stud kit in 5/16" coarse and fine threads with studs, nuts and washers, zinc plated — the length to reach through a spacer or an open plenum adapter. |
| Measure the stack | gasket, spacer, second gasket and carb flange all add up. The stud must leave enough thread above the flange for the nut and washer to pull down. |
3. What Goes Wrong
| Too long into the intake | a stud bottoming in a blind manifold hole feels tight while the flange is still loose. |
| Too short on top | a nut running out of thread cannot clamp the gasket, and you chase a vacuum leak instead. |
| Throttle linkage clearance | the rear studs are the ones that interfere with linkage and return springs. Check clearance before final assembly. |
If you are switching from a Q-jet to a square-bore carb or a throttle body, order the studs at the same time as the adapter or spacer. That is the point where the stack height changes.
