Pontiac V8 Lunati Voodoo- Hydraulic Roller Cams
Cam Only, Four Grinds — Lunati Voodoo- Hydraulic Roller Cams for Pontiac V8s
These are the Lunati Voodoo retro-fit hydraulic roller profiles supplied as camshafts only, ground by Butler to replicate the Lunati part numbers. Four grinds are stocked, one step larger at the top than the cam and lifter kits, reaching a serious street and race profile.
Each carries Lunati's own application notes, and those notes are unusually specific about stall converter and compression for the Pontiac V8 builder. Take the cam alone when the roller lifters and springs already in the engine are right for the new profile.

More About Lunati Voodoo- Hydraulic Roller Cams
1. The Four Profiles
All are retro-fit hydraulic roller grinds. Lift is shown at 1.5 and 1.65 rocker ratio where published.
| 211/219 at .050", 262/270 advertised | rpm range 1400 to 5400. A very strong increase in low rpm torque and power, works well with OEM-style injection, and a popular inboard and outboard marine choice. |
| 219/227 at .050", 270/278 advertised | .515"/.530" lift, rpm range 1800 to 5800. Great midrange torque and horsepower. Likes a 2000 rpm stall converter and works well in towing applications with lower gearing. |
| 231/239 at .050", 282/290 advertised | rpm range 2200 to 6200. A high performance street cam that likes an upgraded intake, carburetor and exhaust, needs a 2800 rpm stall converter in most cases, and requires 9.5:1 compression for maximum performance. |
| 243/251 at .050", 294/302 advertised | .560"/.565" lift with 1.5 rockers or .615"/.621" with 1.65, rpm range 2600 to 6600. A serious street and race cam. It needs 10.5:1 compression and a 3200 rpm stall converter, works with moderate nitrous and small superchargers, and has a very healthy idle quality. |
The compression and stall figures climb with every step, and they are the honest cost of the extra duration. A 243/251 cam in a 9:1 engine behind a stock converter will be slower than the cam it replaced.
2. Cam Only Versus the Cam and Lifter Kits
| Take the cam alone | when the engine already has good retro-fit hydraulic roller lifters and a spring package that suits the new lift and duration. |
| Take a cam and lifter kit instead | if the lifters are unknown, worn or were matched to a much smaller profile. Butler stocks the Voodoo hydraulic roller cam and lifter kits separately. |
| The biggest grind | the 243/251 profile is only offered here as a camshaft, so the lifter and spring decision is yours to make deliberately. |
3. The Retro-Fit Requirements
| Valley pan | a stock valley pan will not clear the tie bar on retro-fit hydraulic roller lifters. An aftermarket or fabricated pan is part of the job. |
| Distributor gear | roller cams require a bronze or polymer distributor gear. |
| Coil bind at 1.65 | at .621" of valve lift there is very little spring travel left. Check coil bind and retainer-to-seal clearance with the springs you are actually installing. |
| Piston to valve | at these durations and lifts, check it rather than assume it. Overlap is where the interference lives. |
