The Ram Air Series retrofit hydraulic rollers are Butler exclusives: hydraulic roller versions of the factory Pontiac reproduction grinds, designed and ground by COMP Cams for Butler, made in the USA in Tennessee. You get the character of the original cam with a roller lobe under it.
Five profiles are stocked here, the 067, 068, Ram Air III 744 and Ram Air IV 041, plus the McKellar #10 Super Duty reproduction. Each comes as a camshaft, a cam and lifter kit, or a full master kit with timing set, springs, retainers and seals.

1. The Five Grinds
These are hydraulic roller reinterpretations of the original grinds, so the numbers do not match the flat tappet originals exactly. Lift is with 1.5:1 rockers unless noted.
| 067 retrofit | 257/265 advertised, 202/210 at .050", .450"/.450" lift with 1.5:1 or .495"/.495" with 1.65:1, 111 lobe separation. The mildest of the set and the closest thing here to a stock-manners cam. |
| 068 retrofit | 267/281 advertised, 212/226 at .050", .450"/.450" lift, 115 lobe separation. The wide 115 separation is straight off the factory grind and gives it an unusually clean idle for the duration. |
| Ram Air III 744 retrofit | 279/291 advertised, 224/236 at .050", .450"/.450" lift, 115 lobe separation. The Ram Air III powerband with roller friction and no break-in. |

2. The McKellar #10 in Particular
This one has more history behind it than the rest, and Butler is specific about what it is.
| The original | GM part number 541596, Malcolm "Mac" McKellar's hottest street-legal Super Duty grind, 308/320 advertised duration and .447"/.446" lift on 1.65 rockers. It is the camshaft that ran in the 1963 421 Super Duty Catalinas. |
| What Butler had COMP do | reproduce that profile's character as a hydraulic roller. You get the long-duration McKellar powerband and the sound that goes with it, on a roller lobe, with no flat tappet break-in, no lobe wipe risk and modern ramp rates that are easier on the valvetrain. Lift comes out slightly ahead of the original at .470" on 1.65 rockers versus the .447" the factory grind made. |
| What it asks for | Butler calls it a serious street and strip grind, not a mild upgrade. The long seat timing wants compression and a converter to work with it. Plan on a healthy static compression ratio and a stall converter with an automatic. |
| Spring clearance | because peak lift stays at .470" even on 1.65 rockers, it works with the standard hydraulic roller spring packages. No oversized spring and no extra machining for coil bind clearance. |
3. Cam, Lifter Kit or Master Kit

| Master kit | cam and lifters plus a Pontiac Pro Billet timing set with billet gears, a nine-keyway crank sprocket and a seamed chain, BPI hydraulic roller valve springs matched to your head type, ten-degree chromoly retainers for 1.437" to 1.500" springs, locks, valve stem seals and a pushrod length checking tool. |
The BPI hydraulic roller spring for cast iron D-port heads is a dual with damper, 1.465" outer diameter, .950" coil bind, 140 lbs seat load at 1.600" and 350 lbs open at 1.100". Super Duty, Ram Air IV and Edelbrock heads take a different spring with a 1.460" outer diameter and a 1.200" coil bind height.
4. The Valley Pan, Every Time
This applies to every cam on this page and is worth repeating because it stops installs cold.
| Stock pans do not clear | a stock valley pan will not allow clearance for the tie bar on hydraulic roller lifters. Butler points to TPP-0421 or a BFA fabricated valley pan. |
| Distributor gear | roller cams require a bronze or polymer distributor gear. |
| Numbers-matching cars | if the goal is a car that looks and sounds factory but does not need break-in oil and an anxious first twenty minutes, this page is the reason it exists. |
