Pontiac V8 Engine Bolt Kits
One Box, Whole Engine — Engine Bolt Kits for Pontiac V8s
An engine bolt kit is the whole outside of the engine in one box — intake, valve covers, timing cover, oil pan, water pump, fuel pump, water neck, distributor clamp and headers. On a Pontiac V8 going back together after 50 years, replacing every rusted, stretched and mismatched accessory bolt at once is faster and cheaper than chasing them one at a time.
Butler stocks ARP complete engine and accessory bolt kits in polished stainless and black oxide, in 6-point hex and 12-point, plus a 12-point stainless intake manifold bolt kit for the engine that only needs the top end redone.

More About Engine Bolt Kits
1. What a Complete Kit Covers
The ARP Pontiac kits are sold as a complete engine and accessory set. Every one of them includes fasteners for the intake manifold, valve covers, timing cover, oil pan, headers, water pump, fuel pump, water neck and the distributor clamp bolt.
| Polished stainless, 12-point | ARP-594-9501 is the 12-point polished stainless kit — the choice for a show-finish engine bay. |
| Stainless, 6-point hex | ARP-594-9601 covers 350, 400 and 455 engines with a hex head, which is easier to reach with an ordinary socket. |
| Black oxide, 12-point | ARP-594-9701 for a factory-dark look instead of bright stainless. |
| Black oxide, 6-point hex | ARP-594-9801, the same coverage with hex heads. |
| Intake only | ARP-494-2101 is a 12-point stainless intake manifold bolt kit for an engine that is only getting a manifold change. |
2. What These Kits Do Not Include
An engine bolt kit is external hardware. It is not a substitute for the fasteners that hold the engine together internally.
| No head bolts | head bolt and head stud kits are year and casting specific and are ordered separately. |
| No internal fasteners | main studs, rod bolts and cam and crank hardware are their own sections. |
| Head style matters for headers | 1972 D-port heads deleted the end bolt holes on the exhaust side, so those engines need L-brackets from the Header Bolts section in addition to any bolt kit. |
3. Torque the Outside Correctly
External bolts are the ones most often overtightened. Butler's Pontiac torque chart keeps most of them low.
| Intake manifold | 40 ft-lbs on cast iron heads and 25 ft-lbs on aluminum heads, with non-hardening sealer. |
| Valve covers | 8 ft-lbs with engine oil. This is where gaskets get crushed and covers get warped. |
| Timing cover to block | 35 ft-lbs; oil pan 12 ft-lbs; exhaust manifold 30 ft-lbs with anti-seize. |
Buy the kit that matches the finish you want in the engine bay, then handle head bolts, main studs and rod bolts from their own sections. A thread chaser set run through the block and heads first keeps new hardware from binding in old holes.
