Pontiac V8 SELF TUNING EFI - EZ-EFI (1.0)
Self-Tuning, Start to Finish — SELF TUNING EFI - EZ-EFI (1.0) for Pontiac V8s
The FAST EZ-EFI 1.0 is the kit that started the self-tuning carb-to-EFI category. A cast four-barrel throttle body on a 4150 bolt pattern drops onto the manifold you already have, keeps your original carb-style throttle linkage, and answers a short setup wizard on a dash-mounted touchscreen. From there it tunes itself as you drive against a Bosch wide-band oxygen sensor.
Butler stocks the 1.0 in the current black anodized throttle body form with the touchscreen hand-held, in three fuel configurations: a base kit with no fuel system, a master kit with a complete in-tank fuel system, and an in-tank kit without a pump so you can supply your own.

More About SELF TUNING EFI - EZ-EFI (1.0)
1. What is actually in the kit
The 1.0 is a complete engine control package minus the fuel supply. Everything that hangs on the engine comes in the box.
| Throttle body | A 1100+ CFM four-barrel EFI design in black anodize, with a 4150 bolt pattern and Holley-style throttle linkage, carrying the injectors and fuel rails. |
| Control | A mini ECU with built-in diagnostics and a limp-home mode, a Bosch wide-band oxygen sensor, and a clearly labeled loomed wiring harness. |
| Interface | A dash-mounted touchscreen that runs the setup wizard first and then becomes your gauge screen. |
| Sensors | The system uses commonly available OEM GM sensors, so replacements are not a specialty order years down the road. |
2. Three ways to buy it
The throttle body, ECU and harness are identical across all three. The only difference is how much of the fuel system comes with it, and that is the part worth thinking about.
| Base kit, no fuel system | Everything needed for a carb-to-EFI conversion minus an EFI-compatible 40+ psi fuel system. Correct if your car already has an EFI-ready tank and pump, or if you are building the fuel side from Butler parts. |
| Master kit with complete in-tank fuel system | The base kit plus a full in-tank fuel system, so the pump, plumbing and pressure control arrive with the EFI. |
| In-tank kit, no pump | The base kit plus the universal in-tank fuel system hardware, leaving the pump choice to you. This is the one to buy if you want a specific pump brand or a higher flow rate than the standard kit includes. |
3. How it fits a Pontiac V8
Nothing about a Pontiac makes this hard, which is the point of the 4150 flange. The fit questions are the ordinary ones.
| Manifold | Works with a carb-type single or dual plane intake. No manifold replacement is required, which matters if you are running a period-correct or numbers-matching intake. |
| Linkage | It works with your original carb-style throttle linkage and accepts all OEM sensors, so the throttle cable and kickdown arrangement you already have generally carries over. |
| Ignition | The 1.0 runs behind your original carb-type ignition, HEI included. It controls fuel; timing stays where you set it in the distributor. |
| Air cleaner | Because it is a four-barrel throttle body on a 4150 flange, the air cleaner you were running on the carburetor is usually the one that goes back on. |
4. The fuel system is the real project
A carbureted Pontiac feeds its carburetor at a few psi from a mechanical pump. EFI wants 40+ psi and a return. That gap is where most conversions stall.
| In-tank pump advantages | FAST engineers recommend an in-tank pump when possible. It is always primed, runs cooler, runs quieter, and it is the method used by all OEMs. |
| Inline pump advantages | Inline pumps are easier to install because the tank does not have to come out. If the car is together and you are not pulling the tank, that is the practical answer. |
| Block off the old pump | Once an electric pump feeds the system, the mechanical pump comes off and the block needs a pump block-off plate. Butler's Complete EFI Solutions kits include a billet Pontiac fuel pump block off plate along with the tank and lines. |
If the car is apart, do the tank now. Dropping a tank twice is the most common regret on these conversions, and an EFI-ready tank with a recessed in-tank pump looks like the original when it is back in the car.
