Pontiac V8 F.A.S.T. EFI SYSTEMS
Pick Your Lane — F.A.S.T. EFI SYSTEMS for Pontiac V8s
F.A.S.T. EFI Systems are the kits that turned carburetor-to-EFI conversion into something you can finish on a weekend instead of shipping the car out. Every FAST decision comes down to two questions: do you want an ECU that tunes itself as you drive, or one you tune with a laptop, and do you want a throttle body on your existing 4150 manifold or injectors down at the ports.
Butler carries the FAST line in three groups. The self-tuning EZ-EFI 1.0 kits, the newer EZ-EFI 2.0 with its eight-injector die cast throttle body, and the laptop-tunable XFI Sportsman side for boosted and sportsman drag combinations. FAST oxygen, MAP and temperature sensors are stocked separately under EFI Components.

More About F.A.S.T. EFI SYSTEMS
1. Three families, three different buyers
FAST sells three different answers to the same problem. Which one you want depends on how much control you actually intend to use.
| EZ-EFI 1.0 | The original self-tuning kit. A 1100+ CFM four-barrel EFI throttle body on a 4150 bolt pattern, using the carb-type manifold and throttle linkage you already have. |
| EZ-EFI 2.0 | Same self-tuning idea, newer hardware. Eight injectors in a die cast throttle body, late-model OEM sensors, built-in ignition timing control, and the ability to run E85, E98 and E15 blends. |
| XFI Sportsman | The tunable side. A laptop running FAST C-Com software is required, and in exchange you get full fuel, timing and air/fuel target tables, data logging and boost support. |
2. Self-tuning or laptop-tunable
Do not buy tunability you will never open the software to use, and do not buy a self-tuning box if you already know you want to chase the last two percent.
| Let it learn | EZ-EFI kits walk you through a short setup wizard on the hand-held, then correct themselves against a wide-band oxygen sensor as you drive. No dyno, no laptop, no tuning experience. |
| Tune it yourself | XFI Sportsman offers load-indexed Speed Density or Alpha-N fuel strategies, nitrous timing retard and support for boosted engines up to 5 bar. Alpha-N is there specifically for sportsman drag racers who want repeatability. |
| Spark | Either side will run fuel-only behind a standard carb-type distributor, including a stock HEI, with timing set by hand. Electronic timing control means a FAST distributor or crank trigger. |
3. The fuel system FAST expects
This is the part people underestimate. A FAST throttle body kit needs an EFI-compatible fuel system in the 40+ psi range with a return, and a stock mechanical pump feeding a carburetor-era line will not do it.
| In-tank is the recommendation | FAST engineers recommend an in-tank pump whenever it is practical. It is always primed, runs cooler and runs quieter than an inline pump, and it is the method every OEM uses. |
| Inline is the easier install | An inline pump goes in without dropping the tank, which is the whole reason people pick one. The trade is noise, heat and priming behavior. |
| Base kits ship without fuel on purpose | If you already have an EFI-capable tank and pump, a base kit is the right buy. If not, Butler's Complete EFI Solutions pages bundle it. |
If you are still deciding, start with the fuel system and work forward. The throttle body is easy to change later; the tank and lines under the car are not.
