Pontiac V8 EFI Systems & Components

Carb to Injection — EFI Systems & Components for Pontiac V8s

Putting EFI on a Pontiac V8 fixes the things a carburetor never could: cold starts without pumping the pedal, a steady idle behind a big cam, and an air/fuel ratio that holds on a hot restart, at altitude, and three gears into a pull. A modern self-tuning system does the jetting for you and keeps doing it every time you drive the car.

Butler carries the whole path, from a bolt-on throttle body to full multi-port: Holley Sniper and Terminator X, FAST EZ-EFI and XFI, FiTech Go EFI, Edelbrock EZ-Street and Pro-Flo 4, plus EFI Tri-Power setups, and Butler Complete EFI Solutions that add an EFI-ready tank and in-tank fuel system to the box.

More About EFI Systems & Components

1. Throttle Body or Multi-Port: Pick the Conversion Path First

Every EFI swap starts with the same question: where do the injectors live? That answer sets your intake, your budget, and how much of the engine bay changes.

Self-tuning throttle bodyBolts onto a standard 4150-flange intake and takes a conventional round air cleaner, so nothing under the manifold changes. Holley Sniper and Sniper 2, FiTech Go EFI 4, Edelbrock EZ-Street and the FAST EZ-EFI 1.0 and 2.0 families all live here.
Multi-portOne injector per port on an EFI intake with fuel rails. Butler builds its own Holley Terminator X Custom Multi-Port kit and stocks Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 kits built for Pontiac 326-455, plus the FAST EZ-EFI 2.0 multi-port retrofit.
EFI Tri-PowerThree-deuce looks with modern fuel control. Butler offers a Butler Built EFI Tri-Power system fully assembled, a Butler Spec kit ready to assemble, and the FiTech Go EFI Tri-Power with its matching linkage kit, plus billet Tri-Power air cleaner kits and lids in sets of three and an adapter to mount a FiTech unit on a 1966 Tri-Power intake.
Tunable stand-aloneFAST XFI Sportsman multi-port engine control for the combination that has outgrown a setup wizard.

2. Butler Complete EFI Solutions: The Fuel System Comes With It

The throttle body is the easy part. What stalls most conversions is getting 40-odd psi of clean, non-aerated fuel out of a tank that was designed to feed a mechanical pump at five. Butler packages the whole job instead of leaving you to source it.

Master SeriesThe EFI system of your choice paired with a factory-replacement, EFI-ready fuel tank and a complete in-tank fuel system. Built around Edelbrock EZ-Street or Pro-Flo 4, FAST EZ-EFI 1.0, Holley Sniper or Sniper 2, or the FiTech Go 4.
Ignition SeriesThe same package with a complete ignition added. The FAST 1.0 build ships with an MSD Pro Billet distributor, 6AL box, coil, wires and looms; the Edelbrock builds use the Edelbrock Pro Tuner short-tooth Hall-effect distributor that talks directly to Pro-Flo and EZ-Street.
The tank itselfGPA series 255lph pump, 0-90 ohm sending unit, EFI-style internal baffling with an extra-large fuel tray so the pump does not starve in a corner, a stub neck with a 2" ID connector hose for your original filler neck, and galvanized steel finished in silver powder coat. Pump and sender sit recessed, so nothing has to be cut.
Staying carburetedThe same tank and in-tank pump package is available as a pump-to-carb solution, and as a tank kit on its own, with a billet Pontiac fuel pump block-off plate for the hole the mechanical pump leaves behind.

3. Self-Tuning Systems, Brand by Brand

All of these learn as you drive and set up from a handheld or a phone. The differences are in power ceiling, ignition integration and how much of the fuel system comes in the box.

Holley Sniper 2Four wiring connections, a calibration wizard instead of a laptop, and support for up to 650hp N/A or 575hp on boost with four 100 lb/hr injectors. The main harness has plug-and-play HyperSpark distributor support, and there are integrated kickdown provisions for TH350/400 and 200-4R/700R4 transmissions.
Edelbrock EZ-StreetShips preassembled and pressure-tested with injectors, sensors, rails, linkage and a Bosch 4.9 wideband, and supports up to 650 horsepower. An internal coil driver means no separate ignition box for most setups, and it will run programmable timing when paired with a Pro-Flo distributor.
Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4True multi-port for Pontiac 326-455, tuned through the E-Tuner 4 app over Bluetooth, with a plug-and-play single-connection distributor using a .500" gear. Butler stocks kits rated up to 550 HP and up to 625 HP. No laptop tuning required.
FiTech Go EFI 4Rated at 600 HP and suited to engines from 200 to 600 hp, with the ECU mounted right on the throttle body, a built-in fuel pressure regulator, a 1 BAR internal MAP sensor and spark control without an external box. Power Adder versions of the Go EFI 4 and Go EFI 8 are also on the shelf.
FAST EZ-EFIThe 1.0 system uses a cast 4150 throttle body that works with your original carb linkage and OEM sensor provisions, and is stocked with a black anodized throttle body and touchscreen, with or without an in-tank fuel system. The 2.0 comes as a base kit or as a multi-port retrofit.

4. When Self-Tuning Is Not Enough

A wizard-driven system is the right call for most street Pontiacs. A stroker with a lot of cam, a blow-through combination or a race car that sees widely different conditions is where a fully tunable ECU earns its money.

FAST XFI SportsmanMulti-port engine control for builders who want direct command of fuel and spark tables rather than a self-learning calibration.
eDashHandheld dash and touchscreen add-on for XFI 2.0 and Sportsman XFI, so you can watch and adjust without dragging a laptop to the track.
Holley Terminator X StealthStocked in 650 and 1250 versions in black, for a combination that has outgrown a basic self-tuning throttle body.
Super Sniper Stealth 1250The big-injector end of the Sniper line in black, for larger displacement and higher output builds.

5. Ignition and Timing Control

Fuel is only half of it. The systems that control timing are the ones that clean up a Pontiac's part-throttle manners, and most conversions go sideways at the distributor, not the throttle body.

Integrated coil driversBoth EZ-Street and Pro-Flo 4 have an internal coil driver capable of firing an inductive coil directly, which removes the CDI box from most builds. Edelbrock publishes a validated coil list for Pro-Flo 4 if you are picking one.
Sniper ecosystemHyperSpark distributors, coils and boxes plug into a Sniper 2 harness. If you are keeping an existing ignition, Holley lists adapters for a CD box and for an MSD Pro Billet or crank trigger.
Dual syncA Sniper EFI to Holley EFI dual sync distributor adapter harness is stocked for multi-port and sequential setups.
Wiring and displaysA power distribution module cleans up a Sniper 2 install, a Bluetooth module puts tuning on a phone, and a 5" dash with GPS speedometer replaces a pile of gauges.

6. Components, Sensors and the Small Parts That Bite You

Most of the warranty calls on an EFI conversion trace back to a sensor, an injector or a fitting, not the ECU.

InjectorsEdelbrock 35 lb/hr PICO injectors, high impedance, sold in sets of eight.
Fuel railsAn Edelbrock Pontiac rail kit for the Torker II manifold (intake 50565), and a Super Victor Pontiac rail kit that accepts standard or PICO injectors.
SensorsFAST 1-bar and 3-bar GM-style MAP sensors, air and water temperature sensors, 5-wire wideband oxygen sensors, an LHA-type 5-wire sensor for XFI, a GM/LT1 IAC for FAST throttle bodies, and Holley EFI oxygen sensors.
Plumbing clearanceA 6AN to 3/8 O-ring 45 degree steel fitting is stocked specifically to clear a drop-base air cleaner. Sort your line routing and air cleaner before you cut and flare anything.

If you are converting a mostly stock Pontiac and just want it to start and drive right, a self-tuning throttle body kit with a matched fuel system is the short road. If you are feeding a stroker, a blower or a set of big-port heads, call us before you order and we will line the system, the injectors and the pump up with the combination you are actually building.
