Somewhere to Set It Down — Engine Cradles/Stands for Pontiac V8s
A finished Pontiac V8 has to sit somewhere between the engine stand and the car, and it has to survive the trip if it is going out on a truck. An engine cradle keeps a built engine off the shop floor, upright and movable without a hoist under it every time.
Butler carries its own 61-79 Pontiac V-8 transport and storage cradle — the same one that ships under Butler engines — with an add-on wheel kit, plus the All Star heavy duty Pontiac cradle and a carbureted engine lift plate for getting the engine in and out.

1. Transport and storage cradles
These bolt to the Pontiac block rather than clamping to the bellhousing face, so the engine sits level and stays put.

2. Lift plates
A lift plate bolts to the intake in place of the carburetor and gives the hoist a balanced pickup point, which beats a chain looped under the heads.

3. Picking between them
If the engine is going into storage, moving around the shop or being freighted, buy the cradle and add wheels. If it only needs to come out of the car and go onto a conventional stand, a lift plate and your existing hoist will do it. Plenty of Pontiac owners end up with both, and neither one is the place to save money when a complete engine is hanging from it.
