Pontiac V8 In-Stock Quick Ship Assemblies
Beat the Lead Time — In-Stock Quick Ship Assemblies for Pontiac V8s
In-Stock Quick Ship Assemblies exist because the longest part of most Pontiac builds is waiting on pistons. A custom dish machined to a specific compression ratio carries a 10 to 12 week lead time, so a rotating assembly built on bores and pistons Butler already keeps on the shelf can be weeks ahead of an identical custom order.
This page collects the stroker assemblies Butler can turn around quickly. Availability changes as stock moves, so treat it as a live shelf rather than a fixed catalogue, and call if you need a specific combination in a hurry.
More About In-Stock Quick Ship Assemblies
1. What makes an assembly quick ship
Nothing about the engineering is different. What is different is that the parts are already here.
| Stocked pistons | Butler buys Ross forgings in volume in the common Pontiac bores, notably 4.155" and 4.181". Those bores save both time and money compared with a one-off piston order. |
| Stocked flat tops | Custom Butler/Ross forged -8cc flat top pistons are kept in stock for the popular 4.250" stroke combinations, where a custom dish would have to be machined to order. |
| Custom dish is the long pole | A dish milled to hit a specific compression ratio runs a 10 to 12 week lead time. If the calendar is the constraint, that is the part of the order to reconsider first. |
2. Deciding whether a stocked combination fits
A quick ship assembly is only a shortcut if your block and heads suit it.
| The bore has to match the block | Bore options start at .030" over so the block cleans up and the rings seat in spec. If your cylinders need more than a stocked bore, the custom route is the honest answer. |
| Compression comes from the chamber | A stocked flat top lands at a different ratio behind a small chamber than a large one. Know the chamber cc of your heads before you assume a stocked piston suits your fuel. |
| Hone to the pistons | Even with stocked parts, Butler recommends having the pistons in hand when the cylinders are honed so piston-to-wall clearance is set off the actual pistons. |
3. What still has to happen
| Balancing | Every rotating assembly Butler sells must be balanced before installation, whatever the brand and however quickly it ships. The Butler Process weighs and pin-fits the rods and pistons, computer balances the crank to the assembly and documents it on a balance card. |
| Neutral balance hardware | An internally balanced assembly needs a neutral-balanced flexplate or flywheel and a neutral harmonic balancer. |
Stock on this page moves, so what is here today may not be here next week. If you have a deadline, call with your block, bore and heads and we will tell you what can actually ship now rather than what might.
