Fuel Systems/Pumps

Air & Fuel Delivery - Fuel Systems/Pumps
The journey of fuel—from the tank to the combustion chamber—is critical to a Pontiac V8's power output. For high-horsepower engines, the factory fuel system is a major bottleneck. Butler Performance addresses this with a focused selection of Fuel Systems and Pumps that support both traditional carbureted setups and the modern performance standard: Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI). Butler Performance emphasizes the need for consistent fuel pressure and flow, offering complete, engineered solutions to eliminate vapor lock, fuel starvation, and insufficient volume across the entire performance spectrum. We provide In-Tank Fuel Pumps, In-Line Fuel Pumps, Mechanical Fuel Pumps, EZ-EFI Fuel Systems, Fuel System Accessories, and more

Unleashing Modern Power: Fuel Systems and Pumps at Butler Performance

1. The EFI Revolution: High-Pressure Fuel Pumps

Converting a classic Pontiac to EFI is the single biggest performance and drivability upgrade. EFI systems require high-pressure 40 to 60 psi and high-volume pumps.

  • In-Tank EFI Pumps: The preferred solution for performance. Butler offers High Flow In-Tank Fuel Pump Conversion Modules 190 250 and 400 lph that allow builders to retrofit an internal pump into the original gas tank.3

    • Benefits: In-tank pumps run cooler (immersed in fuel), are quieter, and eliminate the risk of vapor lock and cavitation common with external (in-line) pumps.4

    • HP Capacity: Flow rates range from the 190LPH pump (supporting up to 450hp EFI) up to the 400LPH pump (supporting 500 to 1,000 hp EFI).

  • In-Line EFI Pumps: For easier installation without dropping the tank, Butler offers genuine Walbro / TI Automotive In Line EFI Fuel Pumps (e.g., 255 LPH) that are suitable for engines up to approximately 600 hp

2. Complete Fuel System Solutions

Butler Performance simplifies the conversion process with expertly bundled kits that ensure component compatibility.

  • Complete EFI Solution Kits: These bundles include an EFI-ready fuel tank with an in-tank fuel system and are designed to work with popular Throttle Body EFI systems (like Holley Sniper or FAST).8 This kit converts a carbureted system to a ready-to-run EFI fuel system, saving builders time and eliminating guesswork.9

  • In-Tank Pump to Carb Solution: Recognizing the benefit of an in-tank pump's reliability and quiet operation, Butler also offers kits that install an in-tank pump but regulate the pressure down for use with a carburetor, offering the reliability benefits of an EFI tank without committing to a full EFI conversion.10

3. Mechanical Fuel Pumps (Carbureted Applications)

For enthusiasts who prefer to retain their carburetor but still need more flow than stock, Butler stocks high-volume mechanical pumps from trusted brands.11

  • High-Volume Mechanical Pumps: Featuring units from Holley, Carter, Edelbrock, and RobMc Performance, with flow rates ranging from 80 GPH up to 176  GPH for extreme applications.14

  • Specialized High-Flow Pumps: The Rob Mc Pontiac Six Valve High Volume Fuel Pumps are designed specifically for the Pontiac V8, capable of supporting 550 hp and up, often featuring larger 1/2" inlet/outlet ports for maximum flow.17

4. Supporting Components

The entire fuel path requires specific fittings and electrical support.

  • Fuel Pump to Carb Inlet Kits: Convenient kits that provide all necessary AN fittings and fuel hose to connect a high-volume mechanical pump (like the Rob Mc unit) to a Q-Jet or Holley carburetor.18

  • Regulators: Fuel pressure regulators (like the Edelbrock Adjustable Bypass Regulator) are available to manage and maintain the perfect pressure for carbureted systems when using high-volume pumps.19

  • Wiring and Harnesses: Accessories like the Electric Fuel Pump Harness & Relay Wiring Kit are supplied to ensure electric fuel pumps (in-line or in-tank) receive reliable power via a dedicated relay.20

By offering a specialized range of high-volume mechanical pumps and complete EFI system solutions, Butler Performance provides the necessary foundation for any Pontiac V8 to perform consistently, from a street cruiser to a 1,000 hp drag machine.
