1. Studs and wing nuts
Steel air cleaner lids are held down by a threaded stud running up through the middle of the element to a wing nut. Stack height varies from car to car, so the stud is sold long and trimmed to suit.

2. Smog tube fittings
Factory Pontiac emissions plumbing routes a tube into the air cleaner housing. Aftermarket bases and assemblies do not always arrive with that provision sorted out.

These are inexpensive parts that hold up a finished engine bay. If you are ordering a base, element and lid separately rather than a complete assembly, add the hardware to the same order so the stack goes together in one sitting.
