1. Match the assembly to what it is sitting on
Before style, finish or diameter, the assembly has to fit the neck under it. Everything Butler lists here is built around the 5-1/8" standard, but the throttle body and carb details still matter.
| Four-barrel carburetors | The Billet Specialties billet assemblies fit standard four-barrel carbs. The Edelbrock Pro-Flo 14" round is listed as working with Performer Series, Thunder Series AVS, Holley, Thermo-Quad, Quadrajet and Carter AFB carburetors. |
| Sniper EFI throttle bodies | The Holley Sniper air cleaner kits use a 1" drop base contoured for Sniper EFI, with clearance for the front-mounted fuel inlets on Sniper 4150 throttle bodies, and they also fit Sniper 2300. |

2. Round, oval and Tri-Power
Diameter and shape are partly appearance and partly clearance. A 14" round is the factory muscle car look, but it is not the only way to get filter area on a Pontiac.

3. Build your own instead
If nothing off the shelf gives you the exact height and look you want, Butler's build-your-own assembly lets you specify the stack one piece at a time for 4150-style 5-1/8" carbs and EFI.

4. Hardware and what you get with it
The hold-down is easy to overlook and it is the part people end up hunting for after the assembly is on the car.

| Sniper kits | Include a stamped steel lid with the embossed Sniper logo, the color-matched 1" drop base, your choice of a 3" or 4" paper element, and all the mounting hardware. Washable cotton gauze elements are sold separately. |
| Elements are standard sizes | Billet Specialties notes their assemblies use standard-size filter elements, so replacements are easy to source later. |
Measure hood clearance with the intake and carb or throttle body bolted down before you order. If the numbers are tight, a drop base with a shorter element usually gets you more usable filter area than a flat base with a tall one.
