Pontiac V8 Windage Trays & Crank Scrapers
Keep The Oil Off The Crank — Windage Trays & Crank Scrapers for Pontiac V8s
Windage Trays & Crank Scrapers keep oil off the rotating assembly. A spinning Pontiac crank drags a cloud of oil with it, and that costs power and starves the pan at the wrong moment. A tray separates the crank from the sump; a crank scraper strips the oil film off the counterweights and sends it back down.
Butler stocks the Tomahawk three-quarter length Pontiac windage tray with its spacer kit, a louvered tray that works on every Pontiac V8 including aftermarket blocks, and Butler Performance crank scrapers cut for 3.75", 4.210"/4.250" and 4.500" strokes.

More About Windage Trays & Crank Scrapers
1. Pick the scraper that matches your stroke
A crank scraper is cut to a specific stroke. It has to clear the counterweights closely to do its job, which means a scraper for one stroke will not work on another.
| 3.75" stroke | Butler Performance Pontiac crank oil scraper for the factory 3.75" stroke, the right part for a stock-stroke 350, 389 or 400. |
| 4.210" and 4.250" stroke | One Butler scraper covers both of the common stroker crank sizes. |
| 4.500" stroke | Butler lists a dedicated 4.500" crankshaft scraper for the largest stroke combinations. |
2. Which windage tray fits your block and stroke
The two trays Butler stocks are not interchangeable, and each one has hard limits worth reading before you order.
| Tomahawk three-quarter length tray | A factory-block tray. 4.25" stroke cranks may require spacing, and it is not for use with a 4.5" stroke. It is not intended for aftermarket blocks, where heavy modification would be required. |
| Tomahawk spacer kit | 3/4" flat stock at 3/16" thick, with four 5/16 by 1" bolts, four lock washers and two metal spacers. This is the kit that buys the tray the clearance a longer stroke needs. |
| Louvered Pontiac tray | Fits the IA II and all Pontiac V8s and works on all strokes including up to 4.500". This is the tray Butler points to for aftermarket blocks. |
3. The clearance checks that catch people out
| Dipstick tube | The louvered tray will not work with a stock lower dipstick tube. Plan on an external tube if you are running it. |
| Splayed main caps | When splayed caps are used, the bottom and side of the louvered tray will have to be cut to clear. |
| Tray and scraper together | Mock the rotating assembly up and check clearance at every position before final assembly. A tray or scraper that touches a counterweight is worse than not running one at all. |
If you know your stroke, your block and whether the pan and dipstick are stock, the right combination here is a short conversation. Butler builds these engines every week and can tell you which tray clears what.
