Ram Air Exhaust Manifolds
Pontiac V8 Ram Air Exhaust Manifolds
The Stock-Look Answer — Ram Air Exhaust Manifolds for Pontiac V8s
Ram Air exhaust manifolds are the stock-appearance path. If the car is a restoration, if it has to pass a judged show, or if you simply do not want headers in your life, a set of Ram Air style cast manifolds gives you most of the flow gain with none of the clearance fights, the burnt plug wires or the collector gaskets.
Butler groups these into Stock Reproduction Manifolds from Ames Performance, plus Ram Air Restorations and Max Manifolds castings. Most are offered with an oversized 2.5" collector rather than the restrictive factory outlet.

More About Ram Air Exhaust Manifolds
1. Why a manifold instead of a header
On a Pontiac, Ram Air manifolds are not a consolation prize. They were the factory performance part, and the reproductions carry that shape forward.
| Nothing to clear | a cast manifold hugs the head. No proportioning valve to move, no steering column to modify, no oil filter interference on most applications. |
| Looks correct | for a numbers-matching or judged car, this is the only exhaust that belongs on the engine. |
| Oversized outlets | most of what Butler stocks is built with an oversized 2.5" collector rather than the smaller factory outlet, which is where the real gain over a stock manifold comes from. |
| Port shape still matters | manifolds are cast in D-port and round port, so match the casting to the heads on the engine. |
2. The three shelves
| Stock Reproduction Manifolds | Ames Performance reproduction Ram Air and HO manifolds for 1964-67 and 1968-72 A-body cars, with the matching installation and bolt kits. This is the deepest and most available group. |
| Ram Air Restorations | D-port and round port manifolds plus factory-style long branch headers covering A-body, F-body, X-body, Grand Prix and full size applications. |
| Max Manifolds | D-port castings with true 2.5" outlets, coated in high temp engine paint, port matched to a fiber and metal composite gasket that is included with the set. |
3. What else the job needs
This is where Ram Air manifold installs go sideways, and the notes come straight from the product data.
| Flange and hardware kits | oversized-outlet manifolds generally require a matching flange and hardware kit, and it is a separate part. Order it with the manifolds. |
| Downpipe studs and nuts | the Ames reproduction manifolds state that studs and nuts for the downpipes are not included. |
| Long branch headers need an oil filter adapter | factory-style long branch headers require a 90 degree oil filter housing and an adapter that re-clocks the oil filter out of the way. Full size cars use a different adapter than Firebird, Grand Prix and X-body cars if you want the original look. |
| Frame clearance on round port | oversized round port manifolds may require removing a frame brace, and 1964-67 frames may need to be dented or ground, or the engine moved back, to clear the flange bolt boss. |
| Aftermarket blocks | the manifolds note that clearancing or modification may be required when used with aftermarket blocks. |
If you are putting a stock-appearing exhaust on a Butler-built engine in an aftermarket block, call before ordering. We would rather sort the flange, the gasket and the clearance question on the phone than have you fighting it under the car.
