First-Gen F-Body — 67-69 Firebird/TA for Pontiac V8s
The 1967-69 Firebird is the first-generation F-body, and it does not share a mount with the 1970-up car. The front subframe puts the engine mount up on a four-piece bracket set, and that same pattern carries over to the 72-74 X-body and to full size Pontiacs. If you bought mounts for a second-gen Firebird, they will not go on this car.

1. What Makes the 67-69 Car Different
The first-generation Firebird carries its engine on a bolted-on front subframe, and the mounting hardware is grouped differently from every later F-body.

| Shared mount pattern | Butler's mounts for this chassis are cataloged for 67-69 Firebird and 72-74 X-body together, along with Catalina 389 (1965-66) and 400 (1967-70), Bonneville 389 (1965-66) and 400 (1968-70), and Grand Prix 428 (1968-69). If you have parts off one of those cars, they are the same family. |
| Block-side bolt pattern | a 1969-and-earlier block has only two engine mount holes. If the engine going in is a later block, or the car is getting an earlier engine, check the Engine Adaptors section before you order mounts. |
2. Poly or Solid on a First-Gen Bird
| Polyurethane and stainless interlocking mounts | Butler's set for this chassis is rated good for 650+ horsepower and interlocks so the halves cannot separate under load. This is the mount for a street or street/strip first-gen that still has to be driven home. Butler also notes these fit the Detroit Speed bracket #060412DS for first and second generation F-bodies with a hydroformed subframe. |
| Solid mounts | steel with no biscuit at all. They hold the engine dead still, which is what a drag car wants, and they pass every bit of vibration and exhaust drone straight into a car that has very little sound deadening to begin with. Butler notes that IA2 blocks must be clearanced or notched higher to fit these. |
| Header heat | if you are running headers or Ram Air manifolds with the poly mounts, ceramic coating is highly recommended, plus a heat shield or header wrap. Heat will deteriorate polyurethane. |
Confirm the four-piece bracket set is what your car has, then choose poly if it sees street miles and solid if it does not. Check the block's mount hole count before you order either one.
