Supercharger pulleys, tensioners and accessories is where a blown Pontiac V8 gets tuned and finished. Pulley and belt choice sets the overdrive ratio and therefore the boost, the bypass valve protects the gearcase every time you lift, and the carb hat decides whether the hood closes.

1. Cog Drive Parts Have to Match Each Other
A cog drive is a system of three matched dimensions: pitch, width and tooth count. Get one wrong and nothing turns.

2. Blow Off Valve and Tube
On a centrifugal blower the bypass valve is not an accessory, it is what keeps the compressor from surging into its own gearcase when the throttle shuts.

3. Carb Hat and Hood Clearance
Hood clearance is the usual sticking point on a boosted Pontiac, especially on a car with a factory scoop or a tall intake.

If you are chasing a boost number, change one thing at a time. Pulley diameter, belt length and bypass capacity all interact, and swapping two at once means you learn nothing from the next pass.
