Pontiac V8 1968-72 A-Body GTO/LeMans
Wide and Low — 1968-72 A-Body GTO/LeMans for Pontiac V8s
The 1968-72 A-body dropped the taller-and-shorter core support problem of the earlier cars and used a wide, low radiator opening — roughly 33 inches across. That makes radiator choice here mostly a question of transmission and how much engine is in front of it.
Butler stocks Cold Case direct-fit aluminum radiators for GTO, LeMans and Tempest in automatic and manual versions, plus Entropy radiator and dual-fan packages rated up to 700 and 1000 horsepower for stroker and big-inch builds.

More About 1968-72 A-Body GTO/LeMans
1. Cold Case direct fit
Cold Case calls this the most popular direct-fit cooling upgrade for these cars, and the dimensions explain why it drops in without drama: 33 inches wide, 18-6/16 inches overall height, 2-5/8 inches thick, with two rows of 1 inch tubes.
| Automatic | the automatic version adds a built-in transmission cooler, and it also fits the 1969-71 Grand Prix. |
| Manual | the manual-transmission version skips the trans cooler. Butler describes it as the go-to upgrade for these cars from mild street builds to stroked big-inch combinations. |
| Why aluminum | a Cold Case 2-row typically outperforms an original 4-row copper and brass core by roughly 10 to 15 percent while weighing far less, and it keeps the factory appearance once painted. |
2. Entropy radiator and fan packages
If the engine has outgrown a bolt-in core, Entropy sells the radiator and the fans as one rated system for 1968-77 GTO and LeMans.
| Up to 700 horsepower | two rows of 1 inch cooling tubes with dual 11 inch fans for 3000 CFM total, precision TIG welded, with a billet CNC machined filler neck, heavy duty plate transmission cooler and stainless hardware. |
| Up to 1000 horsepower | two rows of 1-1/4 inch tubes with dual 16 inch fans for 5600 CFM total. Overall dimensions are 33 inches wide by 19 inches high by 7-1/4 inches deep, so measure your opening and check hood and pulley clearance before ordering. Entropy recommends its RH-02 wiring harness for fans this size. |
3. Finishing the install
A fan package this strong pulls hard enough to matter electrically, so plan the wiring and the relay rather than splicing into whatever is there. Butler also stocks a Fast Monty dual 14 inch Spal shroud kit built specifically around the Cold Case GMA42 core for these cars, and Cold Case rubber insulators that fit 1969-74 GTO. Two pair of insulators are needed per car.
