Base, Element and Lid in One Box — Air Cleaner Assemblies for Pontiac V8s
An air cleaner assembly is base, element and lid sold together, already matched for height and neck size. On a Pontiac V8 that matters because the space between the carburetor flange and the underside of the hood is fixed, and a stack that is a half inch too tall is a hood that will not shut.

1. Start with the neck and the carburetor
Almost everything on this page is cut for a 5-1/8 inch neck, which covers the standard four-barrel carburetors and the 4150 style EFI throttle bodies. Two exceptions are worth knowing before you order.
| Not for Dominator carburetors | Billet Specialties states this and Butler repeats it on the build-your-own air cleaner. A Dominator needs a different flange entirely. |
| Edelbrock and Carter AFB | these require a flat base rather than a drop base, so a drop base assembly is the wrong starting point on those carburetors. |
2. Round, oval or triple
Shape is partly about airflow and partly about what fits under a Pontiac hood.
| 14 inch round | the default. Billet Specialties builds a 14 inch by 3 inch assembly with a 7/8 inch drop in high polish or black powder coat, with an optional CNC milled logo including a GTO version, and it uses standard replaceable filter elements you can get anywhere. |
| 12 inch oval | a polished long air cleaner with a ball milled billet lid and washable high flow filter, supplied with a 5 inch stud. Useful when a 14 inch round fouls a master cylinder or a shock tower. |

3. EFI changes the base, not the lid
A Holley Sniper throttle body has its fuel inlets at the front, and a standard base will sit on them. The Sniper EFI air cleaner kits use a drop base contoured around those inlets, offered in chrome with a 3 inch or 4 inch element so you can pick the height your hood allows. If you already have a lid and element you like, Butler also sells the Sniper 1 inch drop base plate on its own.
4. Or build the assembly yourself
Butler's build-your-own air cleaner for 5-1/8 inch 4150 style carburetors and EFI lets you pick each piece: a flat base, a 7/8 inch drop, a 1-1/8 inch drop or the Holley Sniper 1 inch drop base; a Moroso 3 inch paper element or a reusable element in 2, 3 or 4 inch height; and a lid in steel muscle car style, plain or ball milled cast aluminum, an air element style steel lid, or CNC milled logo cast aluminum. Logo choices include Pontiac, GTO, retro GTO, Trans Am, Firebird and Butler Performance, and the shop will render a fully custom design for approval before milling it.
