A shaker hood feeds air through the hood on a second-generation Firebird and Trans Am, and the drop base under it is what makes a modern intake and carburetor live in that space. Swap to an aftermarket manifold on a Pontiac V8 and the factory shaker pan no longer fits, which is what these assemblies solve.
Butler stocks the PTF drop base shaker assemblies with cone shaped washable elements in standard and tall versions for 1973 to 1979 Trans Ams running 326 through 455 engines, along with replacement cone elements.

1. It has to be a Pontiac shaker
Butler is blunt about this and it is the single most important line on the page. These drop bases will only work on a Pontiac engine with a Pontiac 400 or 455 shaker. They will not work with an Oldsmobile shaker, a 301, a 305 or 350 small block Chevy shaker, or a 350 Rocket, even if that shaker came on the car from the factory, because those units have different heights, offsets and base plates.

2. Standard or tall, and what the scoop has to be
Two heights are offered and they are not interchangeable without changing the scoop above them.
| 3 inch cone element assembly | 4 3/4 inches overall, 16 5/8 inch diameter, 2 3/4 inches from the carburetor flange to the top. Built for the Edelbrock Performer RPM, Victor Jr and Northwind NW-4150 intakes with a Q-jet or Holley carburetor. It also works with the Torker II at a slightly different angle, or with shorter intakes plus a spacer. |
| 4 inch tall cone element assembly | 5 3/4 inches overall and 3 3/4 inches from flange to top, intended for engines making more than 450 horsepower. This one requires the taller fiberglass Mega Scoop, sold separately, and the Mega Scoop is the fiberglass shell only with no hood seal and no metal pan. Plan on finishing, priming and painting it. |
3. Carburetor and EFI clearance
The drop base works with FAST EZ 1.0 and 2.0, Holley Sniper and Sniper 2, and FiTech, and with both electric and non-electric choke Holley and Q-jet carburetors. Expect to sort out the fuel inlet: Butler has found a -6AN to 3/8 inch o-ring 45 degree steel fitting works well on Sniper systems instead of bending the pan. Edelbrock carburetors work only with a banjo fitting and only with a non-electric choke; the electric choke version will not fit.
