Pontiac V8 Late Model Pontiac/LS< Head Porting and Services
Send Your Cores — Late Model Pontiac/LS< Head Porting and Services for Pontiac V8s
The same CNC department that ports Pontiac V8 heads runs a Premier CNC porting program for late model LS and LT castings. This is a service, not a product: you send cores, Butler ports and machines them, and they come back ready to assemble by you or your builder.
Programs are written per casting family rather than sold as one generic port job. Butler currently lists LS1, LS2 and LS6 service for the 241/853, 243/799, 317 and 706/852/862 castings, plus an LS3 program for 821, 823 and 5364 heads.

More About Late Model Pontiac/LS< Head Porting and Services
1. Find Your Casting Number First
The porting program is specific to the casting, so the number on the head decides which service you are buying.
| LS1, LS2, LS6 | Separate programs for 241/853, 243/799, 317, and 706/852/862 castings, each sold as a pair. |
| LS3 | A dedicated program for the 821, 823 and 5364 castings. |
| Cores | Customer supplied. Butler is porting your heads, not selling you a set. |
| Not on the list | Call before ordering. A casting that is not shown is a conversation, not an automatic no. |
2. What the Butler LS Process Includes
Each set gets the full sequence, not just a pass through the porting program.
| Teardown and evaluation | Complete teardown, inspection and evaluation of the cores before any machine time goes into them. |
| Premier CNC porting | Intake ports, exhaust ports and chambers, though some chambers do not apply depending on the casting. |
| Surface machining | Intake, exhaust and valve cover rail machining, back to like-new surfaces, plus head deck finishing for proper sealing. |
| Verification | Pressure tested for zero leakage, performance valve job, washed and hand deburred on all edges, and final QC checks for process control. |
3. What Comes Back and What Is Still on You
Know where the service stops so the rest of the build is scheduled around it.
| Returned ready to assemble | The heads come back for you or your builder to assemble. Springs, retainers, valves and the rest of the valvetrain are a separate conversation. |
| Match the cam | Decide the camshaft before the heads go back together, the same way Butler specs a spring package against a known cam on its Pontiac programs. |
| Pack them properly | Heads are heavy and the sealing surfaces are what you are paying for. Crate or heavily package a set before it ships. |
If your casting is on the list, ordering the matching service is all it takes. If it is not, or you want the heads assembled rather than returned bare, call and we will quote the work before anything is shipped.
