Pontiac V8 Evac Pump Kits & Accessories
Pull Vacuum, Seal the Rings — Evac Pump Kits & Accessories for Pontiac V8s
A crankcase evacuation system pulls vacuum on the crankcase instead of letting blow-by pressurize it. Butler's own description of what that buys you is straightforward: improved ring seal, less blow-by and fewer leaks, and less contamination of the intake charge. On a high-output Pontiac V8 it is one of the few bolt-on items that shows up on the dyno.
Butler stocks complete evac pump kits built around GZ Motorsports and Moroso pumps, billet crank drive mandrels and pulleys, vacuum relief valves, oil separators, breather tanks and header-mounted evac kits.

More About Evac Pump Kits & Accessories
1. Two Ways to Evacuate a Crankcase
Both are stocked and they suit very different cars.
| Header mounted | Moroso's kit uses exhaust flow to draw the crankcase down, with two oil separators and breathers, grommets, one-way check valves and weld-in nipples for the header collector. It is not intended for applications with mufflers, which makes it a race-car answer. |
| Belt driven pump | A vane pump driven off the crank. Moroso's own comparison is that a positive pump is much more consistent and effective than a header-mounted system. That is the route the Butler complete kits take. |
2. The Complete Butler Kits
Butler describes these as the most complete and easiest to install on the market, with everything needed to bolt on in minutes and a detailed instruction sheet. There are two families.
| GZ kit | -10AN fittings and braided hose from the valve cover to the GZ pump, plus a billet adjustable vacuum relief valve so crankcase vacuum can be dialed in. It includes the Butler designed 1" billet crank mandrel with a cut-to-size spacer sleeve and cap for unlimited spacing options, and the recommended 3.5" drive pulley. Butler's case for the GZ pumps is that they generate more vacuum, flow more air and are more reliable, with carbon fiber vanes and Rulon wipers that do not need constant cleaning. |
| Moroso kits | Offered with a three-vane or four-vane Moroso pump, with a -12 aluminum weld-in valve cover bung and braided hose and AN fittings to the pump. Billet aluminum with a precision machined shaft, rotor and bearings. These also include the billet GZ crank mandrel and pulley. |
| Pumps on their own | The GZ Super Pro pump is tested at 33 CFM at 5090 RPM and 25" hg, weighs 6.5 lbs, with side inlet and outlet, #10 AN fittings, carbon fiber vanes and Rulon wipers. Pulley and brackets sold separately. |
3. Drive Mandrels, Pulleys and Brackets
This stops most installs, because the pump has to be driven off the crank and mounted to something solid.
| Crank drive mandrels | Billet aluminum, 1" shaft with a 3/16 keyway, Pontiac four-bolt pattern that also carries a Chevy three-bolt pattern, with a bolt-on end cap. Offered with a cut-to-fit spacer or with the spacer already milled for a billet or factory steel crank pulley. The crank pulley is not included, and the mandrel will not work with a Fluid Damper. |
| Drive pulleys | A 3.5" billet V-belt pulley for the 1" mandrel, with two 1/4-20 set screws to fix its location. Butler's kits come standard with the 3.5" size. |
| Pump pulleys | GZ V-belt pump pulleys in 4.5", 5.5" and 6.5" diameters in 6061 T6, which fit GZ and Moroso pumps. A 5" Moroso pump pulley is also stocked. |
| Mounting | The GZ universal vacuum pump mount is 1/2" thick 6061 T6 designed to hang the Super Pro pump off the end of a Pontiac head, hardware included. Moroso's Pontiac bracket bolts to the cylinder head. |
4. Relief Valves, Separators and Tanks
Controlling how much vacuum you pull, and keeping oil downstream.
| Relief valves | The GZ billet high flow valve is 6061 T6 with 1/2 NPT pipe thread, adjustable from 5 to 20 in.hg by screwing the cap up or down the body and locked with the knurled knob. Moroso offers a 3/4-16 adjustable valve that threads into a valve cover and a billet valve that installs directly into Moroso pumps. |
| Valve cover fittings | A -12 baffled screw-in valve cover fitting is stocked for the Moroso kits. |
| Separators | Moroso's separator uses an internal foam disc and baffle to stop oil reaching the air cleaner, and fits a valve cover with a 1.22" hole. |
| Breather tanks | A 3" by 11.5" aluminum 40 oz tank with two 3/8" NPT inlets, a petcock drain and a breather, plus Moroso tank breathers in -12AN and 3/8" NPT. |
| Service | Moroso's three-vane service kit rebuilds a worn pump with new vanes and hardware. |
5. Read These Before You Order
Every one of these is Butler's own warning.
| No A/C with the GZ kit | The complete GZ kit is not compatible with A/C. |
| Not for autocross or road race | Butler does not recommend the complete pump kits for autocross or road race applications. |
| Fluid Damper | The drive mandrel will not work with a Fluid Damper. |
| Valve cover prep | The GZ kit requires a -10AN fitting in the valve cover and Butler highly recommends a baffle. Butler's EVAC valve covers come with the bung and baffle already in place. |
Decide the pump family first, then confirm you have a crank snout the mandrel can live on and a valve cover you can put a bung in. Those two things are worth sorting before anything ships.
