1. Carbureted Kits
Four levels, sorted by whether the kit includes a box and what the distributor needs.
| HEI kits | The RPC kit pairs the S3922 HEI distributor with its integrated coil, plug wires in black or red and wire separators. The Pertronix kit does the same around the Advanced III HEI distributor. No box, no external coil, nothing else to buy. |
| Ready to Run kits | The MSD kit pairs the 8528 distributor with 8.5mm wires and a Blaster SS coil. The TSP kit pairs the .491" shaft Ready to Run distributor with wires and a Blaster SS. Both skip the box because the module is in the distributor. |
| Pro Billet kits | The MSD kit built on the 8563 adds the 6AL digital box with rev limiter to the distributor, wires and Blaster SS coil, because that distributor requires one. The TSP Pro Series kit does the same with a box, a coil and wires. |
| Finish | Kits are offered in red or the Butler exclusive black, which on the MSD Pro Billet kit means a black 6AL box, black coil, black cap with the red cap still included, and black wires. |
2. EFI Kits
Two kits, and the difference between them is what your EFI system needs to know.
| HyperSpark | The 565-314 HyperSpark distributor with 8.5mm wires, the HyperSpark EFI ignition box, the HyperSpark coil and separators. This is a Holley EFI package and is built around a Holley EFI ECU, so it is not a carbureted-engine kit as a complete unit. |
| Dual Sync | The 565-207 Dual Sync distributor with wires, an MSD EFI ignition box and an MSD coil. The cam sync signal is what a sequential multi-port system needs; on a Sniper 1 or Sniper 2 that wire is terminated. |
| Gear | Butler calls out the BOP polymer .500" gear as the recommended gear material on both EFI kits. |
3. What Still Has to Be Checked
A kit covers the parts. It does not cover the car.
| Voltage | Any car originally wired for points has a resistor or resistor wire that must come out before an electronic distributor sees power. |
| Block | Super Duty and Ram Air V blocks need Butler's distributor sleeve regardless of which kit you choose. |
| Gear material | The gear in the kit still has to suit your camshaft. |
