Pontiac V8 1964-1967 GTO GM A-Body
Stance or Grip — 1964-1967 GTO GM A-Body for Pontiac V8s
Owners come to the 1964-1967 GTO suspension page for one of two reasons: the car sits too high and rides like a boat, or it will not hold a line on a back road. The good news is that the same RideTech catalog answers both, at prices and install depths that differ a lot.
Butler lists four levels for the early A-Body: the CoolRide air spring kit, the full air ride system, the StreetGRIP bolt-in package and the complete coil-over system with StrongArms and tall spindles.

More About 1964-1967 GTO GM A-Body
1. If the goal is how it sits and rides
Air gets the car low when parked and back to a driveable height without changing spring rate to do it.
| CoolRide kit | air springs mount on application-specific brackets in place of the coil springs, front and rear, with rebound-adjustable HQ shocks. It is the least invasive way onto air, and it is cataloged across 1964-1972 GTO. |
| Full air ride system | adds the tubular control arms, tall spindles, MuscleBars front and rear, rear StrongArms and HQ Series ShockWaves, so the geometry improves alongside the ride height. |
| What air does not fix | ride height and ride quality improve, but a car still riding on tired control arm bushings will not steer any better for having air springs under it. |
2. If the goal is how it corners
Here the springs matter less than what the front suspension does as the body rolls.
| StreetGRIP | dual-rate coil springs at both ends, adjustable shocks, Delrin bushings, tall ball joints and heavier sway bars. One caution before ordering: it is built around the ROUND lower control arm bushing, and arms with oval bushings will not accept it. |
| Coil-over system | the whole front and rear package on four HQ Series coil-overs, with spring rates RideTech developed on this platform. Front and rear StrongArms locate the suspension properly rather than leaving the factory geometry in place. |
These are complete systems by design, which is the point. Mixing a lowering spring from one source with shocks from another is how an early A-Body ends up riding worse than it did stock.
