Pontiac V8 1968-1972 GTO GM A-Body
Replace the Whole Corner — 1968-1972 GTO GM A-Body for Pontiac V8s
A 1968-1972 GTO that has never had its suspension touched is usually carrying original rubber bushings, dead shocks and springs that gave up their height years ago. Replacing those individually gets you a car that is only as good as the worst piece left on it.
The RideTech systems Butler lists for this A-Body replace the whole assembly at once: StreetGRIP, the full coil-over package, an air ride system on ShockWaves, and the CoolRide air spring kit for a lighter-touch install.

More About 1968-1972 GTO GM A-Body
1. What a complete system takes off the car
Worth knowing before you order, because a full kit displaces more parts than most people plan for.
| StreetGRIP | springs, shocks, front control arm bushings, ball joints and sway bars all come out. The control arms and spindles stay, so the car keeps its factory look underneath. |
| Coil-over and air ride kits | the front upper and lower arms and the spindles go too, replaced by StrongArms and tall spindles, and the rear picks up upper and lower StrongArms plus a MuscleBar. Budget time, not just money. |
2. Three things to confirm before ordering
Each of these has sent a kit back at some point. None takes more than a look under the car to settle.
| Lower control arm bushings | the StreetGRIP package is designed around ROUND lower control arm bushings. Arms with oval bushings have to be replaced, and RideTech's tubular lower StrongArms are the usual answer. |
| Rear end make | the rear coil-overs and ShockWaves include brackets for a 10 or 12 bolt or a Currie 9". A Moser rear end needs brackets ordered alongside. |
| Front end weight | spring rates assume a cast iron head Pontiac V8. Aluminum heads change that enough to matter, so note the combination and we will send the correct spring. |
Going the air route, plan on a compressor, tank and control system as a separate line item. Those live in the RideTech air ride control systems category rather than in the chassis kit.
