Pontiac V8 326 Blocks (336-382 cu.in.)
Small Block, Long Rod — 326 Blocks (336-382 cu.in.) for Pontiac V8s
The 326 is the small-displacement end of the Pontiac V8 family, and the rotating assembly is what decides where it lands when it goes back together. Crank, rods, pistons, pins, rings and bearings all set displacement, compression and bottom-end strength at once, so they are chosen and balanced as one matched package rather than bolted together part by part.
Butler builds 326 block assemblies on the stock 3.750" stroke and on 4.000" and 4.250" stroker cranks, all around genuine Ross forged pistons on Butler's exclusive true-Pontiac forging, with Total Seal rings, Clevite or Federal Mogul bearings and internal balancing done in our own shop.

More About 326 Blocks (336-382 cu.in.)
1. Pick your stroke first
Stroke is the single decision that sets what the 326 ends up as. Butler offers three, and each one comes with its own rod length so the assembly stays a long-rod package rather than a crank swap with short rods.
| 3.750" stroke — stock stroke | The Butler/Ross custom balanced assembly for the 326 block, built on a cast or forged 3.750" crank with bushed, full-float H-beam 6.625" rods and 980 wrist pins. This is the rebuild path: a fresh bottom end in the original stroke, with piston shape and compression still your call. |
| 4.000" stroke | Butler's balanced 353-359 ci long-rod stroker assembly, on a new forged 4.000" crank with bushed, full-float H-beam 6.700" rods and 990 pins. |
| 4.250" stroke | Butler's balanced 376-382 ci long-rod stroker assembly, on a new cast or forged 4.250" crank with bushed, full-float H-beam 6.800" rods and 990 pins. This is the top of the range for a 326 block. |
2. What is in the package
Every 326 assembly leaves here as a matched set, not a box of parts that happen to fit together.
| Pistons | Butler/Ross forged pistons on our exclusive true-Pontiac strut-style forging — flat top, custom dish or dome. They are among the lightest and strongest available, and they are nitrous-safe. Tell us your heads and your target compression and our techs work with Ross to design the piston to hit it. |
| Rings and bearings | Total Seal Classic Race plasma-moly rings are standard, with AP Advanced Stainless or Gapless Top available. Bearings are Federal Mogul or Clevite Performance, selected for proper clearance. |
| Balancing | Butler Process internal balancing. We weigh and pin-fit the rods and pistons, computer balance the crank to the rest of the assembly, and ship a balance card with it. |
3. Before you order
| Block casting check | Butler does not recommend the stock-stroke long-rod assembly for blocks with casting numbers ending in 557. Those blocks have thinner main webbing, and we suggest limiting them to 4.000" stroke and under 500 hp. |
| Bore | Options start at .030" over so the block cleans up and the rings seat within spec. Larger bores are available. Have the pistons in hand when the cylinders are honed so piston-to-wall clearance is set off the actual parts. |
| Lead time | Custom dish pistons machined to a compression target run a 10 to 12 week lead time; a flat top is the faster path. |
If you are not sure which stroke suits the car, tell us the heads, the fuel you will run and what the 326 has to live with, and we will point you at the combination that fits.
